We spent 8 nights in Matemo with our two kids ages 18 and 13. We were a little concerned that the kids may get bored since there is absolutely nothing on the island other than the resort. This was not the case. They kept themselves busy all day with the various watersports the resort had to offer. Evenings are quiet which is great after a full day in the sun. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the aircon is a blessing when temperatures soar to great heights. We found the staff friendly and very helpful although communicating is often a problem since not all understood English. We went on a tour of the villages on the island which we found very interesting.. The only downside to the resort in my opinion is the fact that it lacks any kind of "ethnic" flavour. Food has a kind of Fusion feel to it with Asian touches, none of the Peri Peri and Chilli flavours we were hoping to enjoy. In fact the food on the whole was rather average, do not expect great quality and variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. Obviously supply of provisions is a problem since the isalnd is quite isolated. We did not see a green salad in the entire week we were on the island. The music that is played in the bar area in the evenings is never Mozambiquan nor African which is a pity. We had hoped to get a taste of Mozambique on this trip which sadly we did not. We could really have been on an island anywhere in the world. None of this detracts from the fact that we had a fantastic time, highly recommend this to those who want to really chill and unwind!
