Highest recommendation. We stayed for two night at the French house and could not be more pleased with the rooms, the breakfast and the hospitality . It was great. The location is ideal for walking around the old town of Wilmington and is located near to many interesting and historic sites.

An an absolute joy to stay there.

Our first time in Wilmington: we actually selected The French House B&B from among many listed with TripAdvisor, and had my granddaughter drop by for an assessment -- full marks! We were arranging everything from our home in England, and the proprietress, Mrs Thomas, was very helpful in e-mails and phone calls with any questions we had. We arrived very late at night after 22 hours' travel, got a taxi for $13, and were welcomed into a well-maintained, pre-Civil War home on the corner of S. 4th & Dock streets. Mrs Thomas was very helpful during our 3-day stay, with lots of suggestions for tours, people to meet (we did meet a few, including a neighbour cat) and places for lunch and dinner. She is very fond of the house and it shows in the decor and upkeep. We enjoyed rocking chairs on the porch, an extensive library, a sumptuous quiet room. The bathroom was half the size of our English house. There are two guest rooms -- one roomy, one just right for lovers. Breakfasts were fresh, imaginatiive, superb and always hot. We had a rental car and went up to Topsail Beach, saw a plantation, visited the local Cape Fear Historical Society house, did the river walk, went down to Fort Fisher, and had lots of local walks. We felt safe walking the streets, and the Downtown can get a little rowdy on weekend nights. We didn't have time to visit the battleship. It was a very relaxing break for both of us. This is a charming B+B in an excellent location. This was our first trip to the Carolinas from the UK and this was one of the most memorable hotels we stayed in during our holiday. The house is full of character and offers the perfect antidote to the usual anonymous chain hotel or motel. We could not have asked for a finer host in Janice. If you ever find yourself near Wilmington, you won't be disappointed with a night (or several) at the French House.
