“we loved this hotel so much we went back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We found this place by chance when arriving late at night into Wilmington in January (midweek) and were delighted to get a beautiful suite (kitchen, bathroom, living space and big bedroom) for $70. Receptionist was lovely, and there was muffins and coffee for breakfast. Such good value for money and so comfortable.
So later that week we broke our drive back here too, and got an even bigger suite and were v happy with the service again.
I'd definitely recommend this hotel (and Wilmington itself) to anyone and everyone.

“NOISY”

My boyfriend and I stayed here one night this past weekend to break up our trip to Charleston, SC. I picked this place because Front Street Inn was unavailable and they had recommended this instead since it was dog friendly.

Average check-in, receptionist seemed preoccupied, but she was friendly. We stayed in the Country French room and like previous reviewers said, the rooms are very outdated. TV and microwave looked to be from the 1980s and the couch in the common area was extremely small. Everything seemed okay until we went to sleep...

Woke up in the middle of the night to dogs barking. Thankfully called the front desk about it and it soon stopped. The building is very old so you can hear everything! Every movement and every creak.

And the top reason why I will never come back to this hotel would be the fact that the RECEPTIONIST was on her phone from 5AM-7AM and I could hear her ENTIRE conversation. Worst night's sleep in awhile. The breakfast bar was also pretty pathetic (rice krispie treats - are you kidding me?) Also, the morning receptionist (different than the previous day) couldn't have cared less about us and didn't even ask us how our stay was. Pretty bad for our first trip to Wilmington and needless to say, we won't be going back.

We're sorry to hear of your bad experience.

We do have an older property. This particular building was constructed around the turn of the 20th century and we've tried to keep it faithful to that period. The electronics are currently being upgraded.

This building is also where our pet friendly suites are located and occasionally the pets are noisy. We always try to handle these situations as quickly as possible.

One of the drawbacks of being conveniently located in the heart of the historic downtown district of Wilmington can be its popularity. There is an active nightlife and on the weekends it can sometimes be a little noisy in the three rooms located just above the street.

We're sorry that you missed out on the rest of our breakfast items as well as the other refreshments and snacks that are available free to guests throughout the day.

Rest assured that we will use your review as a tool to make our hotel better and we hope that one day you will try us again.

Very dated. Bathroom could use a remodel. some mold in the corner of floor by tub and top of shoer stall. shower head could use cleaning.

dont think I would stay here again.

We're sorry we didn't meet your expectations. We are an older property (some buildings 19th and early 20th century) and we have tried to design many of them to match the period.

We hope that you will contact us with further details so that we may better address the other issues you mentioned.

“Unique place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

I have stayed at the Wilmingtonian many times and always look for a different room type. The rooms (in the original section) are all theme decorated and just plain fun. It is not a Marriott or Hilton and you shouldn't expect the cookie cutter hotel room. Many of the furnishing are aged, the beds are great (some require a step stool to get in), the floors squeek and that is what adds to the charm. It is a great location and the place to stay when exploring downtown Wilmington
