We saw the photos on the internet when planning a week stay in North Carolina and my husband said he wanted to stay there. It is on the high end of places we stay but we tried it. It was absolutely wonderful and a place I want to go back to often.
It was built as a b&b on the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. There are lots of places outside the room to sit and read or watch a movie -- big screen tv set up on the bottom level. There are covered porches and uncovered porches to sit on and just watch nature or read or talk with someone. There is also an exercise room if you feel the need to exercise. They have hiking trails starting at the lodge -- but be forewarned that none are easy! You are, after all, at the top of the mountain which means all downhill and uphill back.
You never need to leave this place unless you want to. Terrie is an excellent cook and their rates include all three meals. If you do leave, she will pack you a lunch for a picnic later.
It is about 45 minutes to Ashville and 15-20 minutes to Waynesville. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close. They are up a dirt road and drive.
This is the most relaxing and beautiful place in the mountains.
