“A very special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

My fiance and I stayed Faversham House in a quest for a romantic weekend away close to Perth. We found Nola and Richard to be very welcoming, striking the perfect balance of friendly and engaging without being overbearing. Nola was recovering from knee surgery at the time, yet we were taken care of superbly. We were made to feel at home among the antiques and the warm furnishings and old world decor provides a link to a simpler time, albeit with all the mod cons you'd expect from contemporary accommodation. Faversham House is a fascinating reminder of a bygone era, where luxury, comfort and conversation were king.

To cut a long story short, we fell in love with Faversham House and were married there in April 2007. Reading some of the (very few) negative reviews makes me wonder if those guests were capable of appreciating the special place they were staying in.

“Disappointing”

We stayed here for two nights in a manor room for a special birthday. The owner was away so we were left to be attended by their daughter and her husband, or something like that. When we arrived, they were just about to head out so we were hurriedly shown around and then left to our own devices. Not a very warm welcome.

The room itself was pretty but the bed was so soft as to be uncomfortable and I did not sleep well. Breakfast was included but was not explained to us. By the time we figured out that we could order a hot breakfast, it was too late. I wouldn't bother staying here again.

“Great place to stay in York”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We booked in for one night. The only rooms available were in the servants quarters which didn't have an ensuite, but we weren't concerned about this.

The room, not in the main house, was small but comfortable. Bathroom was nearby and was clean and functional. As we were the only people staying in the servants quarters we were given a key to the main house to use the guest lounge inside the house, which has a log fire burning, comfy couches, magazines and books.

Continental breakfast in the lovely dining room was included and it was fantastic - delicious stewed fruit, yoghurt, cereal, a variety of bread to toast, juices, tea, and coffee.

The gardens are charming and there are lots of interesting nooks to sit quietly and enjoy the peace and quiet.

The owners are friendly and efficient.

“Fawlty Towers...”

My partner and I recently stayed at Faversham House. Pulling up it looks absolutely stunning, however things went a little downhill from there. Think Fawlty Towers.

We stayed in the somewhat overpriced "servants quarters" and on leaving I felt like we had been treated like servants by the owners.

After spending 2010 travelling throughout the developing world I would say this was by far the least friendly "hotel" I have stayed in during the past 24 months - we felt like we were offending the owners by our mere presence and were told off on a number of occasions for bizarre things - we are paying guests not your naughty grandchildren!

Our room was tiny and dank and we had to go outside to get to the bathroom which smelt like a sewage tank.

The only positive thing about this place was the owners dog, which WAS friendly!

“Serenity plus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

My partner Susie and I have just relished in 2 days of absolute peace and quiet at Faversham house, whilst there were other guests staying there, one never saw them apart from breakfast and certainly did not hear them.
Having been greeted by Nola and shown the necessary parts of the house, she was not seen again until breakfast, what an amazing degree of trust, to in effect be saying, here is my house enjoy it as if your own, I trust you !!!
Such a pleasure as against other places where one could feel that the eyes of the owner are upon you.
No TV what a revelation, and you realise you do not need it and this allows you to totally relax, in fact the impossible happened I was fast asleep by 8pm, not because I was bored but because I was that relaxed.
Certainly a place to return to for that special feeling
David & Susie
