“Great B&B”

My wife and I decided to have a weekend away as the weather was looking good. This was the Thursday prior and I went looking on the net for places.. We live in Perth and didnt want to go too far so Toodyay sounded just fine at about an hours drive from home. Pecan Hill web-site looked great http://www.pecanhill.com.au/ , and so I contacted Craig (one of the owners) who said that he had availability and gave me a good price. So off we went, visited a couple of wineries on the way up and arrived mid afternoon to a warm welcome from Craig and Suzanne.
All rooms have access off a verandah and all have a rear door opening out onto an outside sitting area with views over the valley. Our room was very nice, modern and spotless. The shower was large and, joy oh joy, a seperate toilet off the bathroom. It gets cold at night here and there is both a reverse-cycle air-conditioner and oil heater. Continental breakfast was included with a cooked option at small extra cost. The Continental had lots of selection from fruits, cereals, spreads, coffee, tea and wonderful "Pecan bread". Suzanne cooked one of us a delightful serve of bacon, eggs and sausages.
Sheep and Alpacas amuse you as they run around the paddock. There is a swimming pool for summer times. Everyone just has to go outside in the evening and gaze up at the stars, incredible, just a blanket of stars that cannot be seen when in the city. A lounge is also available to guests with many books, DVD's.
There is a cafe on the property that is open from 10am with a good selection of food and tasting of wines and liquers made from Pecans and grapes grown there.
We loved our stay at Pecan Hill and thank Suzanne and Craig for their hospitality.

“Good fun, friendly hosts, plus alpacas!”

Stayed here for our "Casino Royale" themed weekend with three other couples for the WA long weekend in early June. Between us all, we booked it out entirely and played some very sociable cards together at night after exploring and relaxing during the day around historical Toodyay.
Accommodation was pretty good - we each had an ensuite bedroom with a sliding glass door overlooking the pool and the valley. Quite spacious, very clean amenities and big comfortable king bed with far distant soothing sounds of the odd train making its way thru the Avon Valley. Also provided were a room heater, reverse airconditioner and electric blanket (as Toodyay gets quite cold in winter by Perth standards) with in room coffee/tea making facilities. We chose not to use the swimming pool as we came without our wetsuits! Perhaps for a summer visit.
There was optional feeding of the three alpacas (Buckley, Charlie Brown and blue eyed Paul Newman) and the pet sheep - can't remember their names. We also climbed the viewing tower near the restaurant for some photo opportunities.
Their common area is spacious, plenty of comfortable chairs, couches and a big table for us to eat and play cards, as well as a selection of videos and books. Tea and coffee facilities were always available, both in our rooms and in the common room.
We managed to find a nice little Italian restaurant in Toodyay township on Saturday evening and our hosts offered the option of a roast dinner on Sunday, which was nice not to have to go back into town even though it was only 2 or 3 kilometres, and nice not to have to do the dishes afterwards! We can thoroughly recommend their signature pecan pie for dessert!
Continental breakfasts were included - unlimited fresh home made pecan bread for toasting and every kind of spread you could imagine, as well as fruit and yoghurt and cereals with a wide choice of teas and fresh made coffee. A cooked breakfast was an optional extra for $12 with generous portions of bacon, eggs, tomatoes and sausage. Lunch was also available at their onsite restaurant/cafe, the Hickory Tree which we also sampled.
Suzanne and Craig also organised for a nice man called Paul to come from Toodyay to the B & B and do some very reasonably priced massages for several of us, which was an added relaxing aspect to the weekend that we all enjoyed.
Overall we would consider coming back here again. Pretty good value for 2 nights and four meals per couple at around $400 per couple. Thanks Craig and Suzanne (not forgetting the alpacas) for having us in your home!

Room Tip: All 4 rooms overlooked the valley.

“Peaceful, quiet, country hospitality & a1 cleanliness.”

Very easy to find from Toodyay township, with warm welcoming hosts on our arrival.
We were from Qld visiting family in the area and required somewhere near the town for a few nights stay. Discovered Pecan Hill B & B via the net and booked direct by phone hoping for a quiet, peaceful location, comfortable beds and pleasant rooms (event tho' adjoining others). We were delighted to find all our expectations were met, as well the standard of cleanliness could not be faulted - excellent (and we are very fussy!)
The continental breakfasts were very good, including homemade pecan bread each day. My husband's only disappointment here being that Suzanne would not share her secret, family bread-making recipe! We ordered the evening meals available, 2 choices which were both delicious, homestyle cooking. Suzanne even welcomed our elderly Mum to join us, and happily obliged with a meal to suit. No TV'S in bedrooms - NOT a problem.
A comfortable community loungeroom with TV , library books etc. is available if required.

All in all, a very quiet and relaxing country destination we would return to, and not hesitate to recommend.

“Great value B&B in Toodyay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011

My wife and I visited Toodyay for the Easter Long Weekend and decided to stay a couple of nights to get away from the hustle 'n' bustle of the City (and South-West as that tends to get packed this time of the year). I'd like to note that this was my first experience staying at a B&B as I usually stay in motels/hotels.

When we arrived, we were a bit annoyed to find noone manning the reception desk (even after ringing the bell) so after about 5 minutes we decided to head down to the restaurant (Hickory Tree) which is next to the B&B. We discovered that the B&B/restaurant was short on staff that day (which probably explained the no-show at reception). While we were at the restaurant, we decided to have lunch. The food was fantastic and the pecan pie delightful (you would hope so being situated on a hill named after the nut :)). Besides a minor hiccup at the beginning, Craig and Sue were friendly hosts for the remainder of the stay, and happy to answer questions. So no real complaints in terms of service!

The room was basic but comfortable. There was no television but I suppose traditional B&Bs don't have them. A TV and DVD player was situated in the lounge room and there were also several DVDs and books to choose from. There were a couple of insects we found inside (and several outside) but Toodyay is a country town so it's probably to be expected. At least the room came equipped with bug spray which was handy! Overall though, the room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable. The rooms also come with air conditioning and ceiling fans.

Continental Breakfast is included in the tariff with a hot breakfast costing $12 more. Breakfast was served in the dining area of the lounge room and Continental Breakfast included toast, cereal, juice, tea and coffee - while a hot breakfast included eggs, bacon and sausages.

Pecan Hill is situated a few kilometres out of town amongst farms and has a great view of the hills and valleys around it. None of Toodyay's attractions are within easy walking distance but then you're unlikely to have come to Toodyay without the aid of a car :).
