“Brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2010

I'd never even thought of an amphibious craft excursion, but from the first our journey in this pink beauty was fascinating. Marine drive, 2WD, 4WD, a powerful transport bringing us past dolphins, stingray, sea eagles, up a steep climb to an historic lighthouse and its graveyard. Plenty of passion-and knowledge about the area, fine picnic lunch with classic billy tea. Super.
Very welcoming booking staff, capped off with an extra: and 'energetic' joyflight in a nice little Cessna.
So thanks, Amanda, Angela, Jules and Paul. One of the great days!

“did the 1.5 hour teaser”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2010

We were traveling with two under 3 year olds so went with the short afternoon teaser trip. This was billed as a research trip but the UQ researcher never showed up. They took us out for a short sunset time jaunt onto the sand flats. We also got the requisite 'storm the water' experience (nobody got too wet). It was magic! Great guides (Neil & David), wonderful views and left us wanting more.

“Fantastic Day out - Something for everyone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

Its impossible to chose what the best thing about a day on the LARC is. It could be any of the many fab things you get to do... It starts off a bit "James Bond-esque" (ok, so it would be a retierd and somewhat sedate 007 but where else can you go in a car that turns into a boat, then a car again?!) when you're taken from water to land to water again, working your way accross the estuary and into the magnificent Eurimbula National Park. Next comes the heavenly drive along the beach in the National Park, spotting fab wildlife as you go (dolphins, kangaroos, butterflies, mud crabs, stingrays, Brahminy Kites, White Bellied Sea Eagles, Red capped Plovers to name but a few), this lovely journey takes you to Jenny Lind Creek for morning tea (and LARC Juice) - an oasis of tranquility and a beatiful setting for a rest before you're driven up the side of the headland to the Bustart Bay Lighthouse, where (If you're lucky) you'll be met by Stuart Buchanan who has not only been the lighthouse keeper for many years, but has also been a key player in the restoration of the site. The views you get to see from this spot can only be described as spectacular, and the history of the Lighthouse is filled with drama, intrigue, murder and tragedy - all of which you'll find out about from Stuart and your LARC guides. After a leisurely lunch back at the creek, you'll then get to go sandboarding AKA throwing yourself down the side of a huge sand dune on a mini "surfboard" at who-knows-how-many-miles-per-hour just for fun! You'll then be driven back to base, having another chance to spot the wildlife - what a fab day out! I not only recommend it, but urge anyone in 1770 to do it for yourself and see if youcan decide which is the best part of the day!

“WOW What a fantastic day out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2010

Just spent 3 days in 1770 and went on a day trip aboard the LARC vehicle which stands for Light Amphibious resupply Cargo, to Bustard Heads Lighthouse. At first we weren't quite sure what to expect from this pink monstrousity but boy were we surprised. This vehicle is amazing, built by the yanks in 1966 to act as a resupply vessel in vietnam. It took us to places where no other vehicle could possibly go and our guide and driver Neil, who has lived there since he was a boy, was very informative. He knew his history from Capt Cook through to present day and he also was part of the restoration of the lighthouse on Bustard Heads and so he was speaking from experience. After visiting the lighthouse we had a lovely picnic lunch and to top the day off, we did a little sandboarding down the local sand dunes. Absolutley Awesome day, one not to be missed.

“Wow! What a wonderful day. Great way to travel. Sensational views.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2010

This was simply a wonderful day. The LARC is a great mode of transport. The scenery on the way to the Bustard Head Lighstation & from the Lightstation were spectacular. Luke was a great driver. Paul our tour guide is obviously passionate about the area & history, with lots of interesting commentary. Loved the stops for exploring for shells. Nice morning tea & lunch provided. The restored lightstation cottage was great & we were lucky enough to meet Stuart Buchanan the man resposible for the restoration. Thanks very much for such a lovely day!
