This review is long overdue as we visited in December 2010! We were a party of 10, two families travelling together and we still talk about our stay. The rooms were large, bright, clean and affordable. The location was quaint, quiet and located very near Norman Point and the dolphins. The owners went above and beyond in terms of being accomodating. We sat up into the wee hours of the night visiting and sharing stories of Canada and them of Australia. We will never forget Duncan's rendition of Michael Jackson' s Billy Jean on the acoutstic guitar! Our oldest son was thrilled to jam with Duncan and we had a wee sing along. Sandra was so helpful in advising us on our next stop, Fraser Island and helped us organize amazing accomodation in Harvey Bay for our nights before and after our Fraser Island adventure. Cleanliness and comfort are important to us and these criteria were fulfilled, but even more importantly to our families travel is about meeting people and making memories. Our night at Tin Can Bay Motel is something we all remember so fondly whenever we reminisce about our Australia adventure.

Full marks for the 11.00am checkout - lets hope the rest of rural Australia soon follows their lead.
Large clean room -,great value
Our room needed new curtains & an extra bed side table but at $90 a night it's going to take a while to upgrade the facilities
Pool & barbie area was good too
Owners making an effort with extra services like pool towels, cooked breakfast & room service if room notes correct.
Ablebto visit dolphins & come back for leisurely breakfast because we didn't have to move out by 10.00am :)

Thank you for the review. Coming from someone that is clearly a seasoned traveller, it really does mean a lot.
Promoting a casual atmosphere at our motel is important and not having to rush out the door by 10am does make our guests feel even more relaxed.
We do still have work to do on the motel and there are four rooms that still need new curtains but we are getting there and as you say, it will take some time to renew everything given our low rate.
Many of our guests take advantage of having breakfast cooked for them and we also offer a CYO (cook your own) breakfast with provisions supplied along with an electric frying pan. This is becoming popular too and works really well with the 11am check out.

“The perfect getaway.”
From the very second I pulled into the drive way, it looked perfect. Neat and tidy, relaxing pool area and a beautiful, shady front garden.
The staff are wonderful, always smiling and are always willing to lend a helping hand where need be, or to even just have a chat!
The rooms were great, clean and presented beautifully. The bed was very comfortable, so was the air conditioning!
It's the perfect getaway when you just want to relax. I'm so glad I chose to stay there.
Thanks guys, you made my break complete!

I might be expecting too much. We arrived at the room and were desperate for a cup of tea after a long trip. Only one cup in the kitchenette.
How about a warm shower to freshen up. Sorry no soap supplied. Shower head sprayed water all over the room.
Lets use the wireless internet connection advertised as provided. Unable to log on without the security code pin. 7,30pm at night went to the office to get the pin codes. Office in complete darkness. No way available to contact manager, no phone in room to contact manager.
The Tin can Bar Motel web site advertised a full size fridge so we had brought enough food for three days only to find a small bar fridge with a freezer that was completely full of ice.
No radio or alarm clock in the room. Bed side table on only one side of the bed.
As I said, the room was clean and the air cond. cold but that was about all. We left after one night and it would take vast improvements to bring us back here. We came here after recommendations from previous comments on Tripadviser. I don't think I will be placing too much weight on these in the future.

As I tried to explain to you while you were here, Duncan had been admitted to hospital twice in the few days prior to your arrival. This did mean that some of the checks we usually do weren't done such as your one coffee cup.
Some of your complaints are unfair and I have to say untrue as we always supply soap, there is a number on the reception door clearly displaying our contact details and all of the rooms have alarm clocks!
Our larger family rooms do have a full size fridge but as you booked a Queen room for two nights your room had a bar fridge. All of our previous guests have this satisfactory.
We believe the comments made on tripadvisor from experienced travellers are valid and should certainly be taken in good faith.
