My mom and I stayed at the Lodge and were both disappointed. While most bed and breakfast's are well put together/vintage-y...the Pelican Lodge was in need of improvement. We were told we were in their "nicest room" which was crammed with old furniture. The TV remote didn't work, and to change the channel we had to stand on tip toe on the sinking sofa. Also, one of the two window ACs was not working. The bed was uncomfortable because whenever anybody in the lodge moved, the bed shook. The exterior of the building was less than charming with overgrown plants, uncut grass, and old rusting metal objects strewn about. Breakfast was nicely set up, but the food was disappointing. We were served an "Egg in a Hole", which is in other words a piece of toast with an egg in the middle. On the side we had day old grits and sausage. A warning to anyone staying at the Pelican: Phil does not like people in his kitchen. Respect that and save yourselves from a verbal beating. Overall my vacation was pleasant, but not because of the Pelican. The village of Ocracoke is very charming.
