“Heavenly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2007

Maybe it was because we were coming from the humidity of South Carolina, but getting into M.V. was a pure delight! Country Cabins did not disappoint either.
Cabins are all on one property, but there is as much or as little privacy as you want. We stayed in #5 which is on the end and had a hot tub. Property is only a few blocks from the highway so it was nice and quiet. Inside was well equipped in terms of AC, fans, heaters. Having a few of the food basics in the room would have made cooking more comfortable (ie salt and pepper, oil, condiments).
Property owners were friendly and knowledgable about the area.
Plenty of activity for kids of all ages on the property and tons of stuff to see and do in the area.

  • Liked — A cabin outside the Smokey Mountains!!
  • Disliked — That I had to leave.

“Log cabin living”

We stayed in the number 3 cabin which would sleep 6 possibly 8 if the couch pulled out. There was a loft which slept 4: two twin beds and a double bed. Downstairs had a bedroom with a double bed. This is a small cabin, but for the two of us and our two dogs, it was near perfect. With that said, this is a pet friendly facility. The fireplace was nice and thankfully we brought our own firewood because they only provide enough wood for one night (one night's worth of wood is at their discretion). There is a hot tub and a small creek flows through the property. The cabins are only a few blocks off of US 19 that runs through the center of Maggie Valley and Cherokee. The dvd palyer did not work, but we never mentioned it to the owner's who were very accomodating. The only drawback was the lighting, that was poor in several places in the cabin. Being tired of staying in hotels, this was a welcomed change for us. If you want to "rough it" but still have some amenities, this is a good alternative to a hotel/motel.

“Wonderful”

My husband and I met my parents in Maggie Valley for a little vacation in September '04. My grandparents were supposed to be driving up from Texas also, with their camper, so we had already made reservations at an RV park, where the cabin we were going to be staying in had minimal amenities. But because of Hurricane Ivan, my grandparents couldn't make it, and we decided at the last minute to try to book a cabin somewhere else where we would have a kitchen. When I say last minute, I mean my husband and I were making the drive there from Northern Virginia when we decided to call around and see if anyplace had any openings. We were fortunate to come across Country Cabins. They did have a cabin available, and they didn't make a fuss about the last-minute reservations. We arrived and were very pleased to find a beautiful, well-kept cabin with enough room for the four of us. The owner was very helpful during our stay, and was always helping us gather wood for the campfire. We tested out the hot tub, which was also pretty nice. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who will be staying in the area. If we ever go back to Maggie Valley, we will probably stay at Country Cabins again!

“precious memory”

The first time we went to country cabins was in 1996, 3 best friends, who one of which had moved to High Point North Carolina, we had not seen each other in a little over a year, I had lost my husband in July of that year, and my dear friend Dana, had lost her husband in August of the same year. This was in September and it was my birthday. We met Tricia in the mountians at country cabins for the most restful, wonderful weekend, the best birthday of my life. We sat on the front porch and drank lots and lots of hot coffee, the kids played and laughed and ran around. We roasted marshmallows in the authentic Appilachan fireplace and took a million pictures. Little did we know that in less than 7 months, Dana would be murdered.

Now it is 7 years later, we are meeting again for Christmas in the same cabin. Tricia, her new husband, 2 daughters, and her two new babies, I and my children, and a very special man in my life. We will feel as though Dana is there with us, and we can not waite to intertwine our new lives, with a precious memory of our old one.

I would like to thank the people who own country cabins, for keeping Wildcat run, up and running, and being so gracious as to make sure that we could spend this holiday season, in this precious place.

They have several journals in the cabin for people who have visited to sign in and tell of their visit. Our Christmas wish is find the journal that we all wrote in in September of 1996, and remember how wonderful that weekend was. I am sure that there will be many tears shed this Christmas, some sad and some happy. But I can guarentee that it will be a Christmas to remember.

Thank you so much
