“A Wonderful Treat”

The smell of the pines, the sounds of the stream, looking up to blue skies and puffy white clouds at the end of tall trees....these are the memories of the outside of the cottage. Awaiting for you inside the cottage is warmth, laughter and great food. A treat for your body and soul. You owe it to yourself to visit this wonderful spot.

“Heavenly”

The Black Bear Cottage is one of the most romantic spots in North Carolina. The soothing sounds of the creek just behind your bedroom door, the cool breeze coming through the windows, the peace and quiet is Heavenly. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and we will be returning every chance we get. The innkeepers make you feel comfortable and welcome, but do not invade into your privacy. The food was a welcome treat every morning no matter what time we selected breakfast. If you need to get away from it all this is the answer.

“Amazing escape to the mountains!”

What a fabulous way to spend a vacation! The Black Bear Cottage is situated almost on top of the stream and is secluded enough to make you feel like that stream is your very own. The friendliness of the hosts, the superb breakfasts, and all the little extra touches make this place more than just a place to spend the night. The beds and pillows are dreamy, and the whole place is very comfortable. We loved the jacuzzi tub and having our morning coffee listening to the sounds of the stream. The most important thing for me is cleanliness, and this place is definitely clean. I would definitely, without hesitation, recommend this place.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful. The setting is pretty - the breakfasts are really good and a huge amount of food. The cabin is over priced for the state it's in - mechanicals are in need of updating and mildew in the tub/shower curtain. Not sure who "freshens" the cabin but I was surprised what didn't happen. We stay in B&Bs for the charm and personal care. This just didn't live up to the web advertisement. Perhaps the more modern rooms at the inn are better?

I am so pleased that these guests, like so many others, enjoyed their breakfast, the location, and the little cottage. And thank you so much for saying how friendly & helpful we are! These folks had, however, only reserved the Streamsong Room, and somehow managed to use both the Streamsong, and also the Woodland Room, which had not yet been cleaned and serviced. (Yikes!) I am so sorry for that mishap, and naturally the shower curtain liner in the Woodland bath has been replaced, as happens quite regularly. (Unsure which 'mechanicals' should be updated... wiring and plumbing are new, as are the Jacuzzi tubs, etc. But we'll figure it out! I'm sure if you'd told us, we'd have fixed it on the spot. We have People for that, LOL!) I do hope you enjoyed sleeping in both rooms for your two-night stay, and am sure that if you continue to sleep in all the rooms here, like Goldilocks, will hit upon that one that is Just Right for you. There are only two more rooms -the king suites- but y'all pick one of the suites and come on back, and we'll give you both of those, as well!

“The most perfect place to marry”

In order to avoid the stress and cost of an international wedding (we have family from both sides of the atlantic), we chose to elope to Maggie Valley and stayed at Black Bear Cottage. Sandee is a most accommodating host and we were pleased to have found somewhere to stay that was private, beautiful, peaceful and above all, allowed our dog to stay too! Sandee had the wedding, photos, cake & flowers arranged without any problems at all, she took care of everything, all we had to do was turn up! I will remember Black Bear Cottage forever, I have such special memories of this lovely little cottage and its spectacular surroundings and will definitely return one day. I highly recommend staying at this cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful retreat or a private wedding, my big day was perfect and I have the beautiful photos taken by Larry to remind me forever. Excellent service, beautiful cottage, highly recommended.
