I should have written this review earlier. My colleague and I spent 5 nights in this hotel, in October 2010, for the 2010 Fall High Point Market. We had 2 rooms, each at a cost of $200. per night. We use Trip Advisor often, so we were shocked to find that this hotel had the TA rating that it has.
Upon arrival, our reservations were incorrect and my colleague, who had requested a non-smoking room, was given a room that reeked of smoke. She was changed to another room, however, the next one also smelled of smoke. She was informed that there were no other rooms, so she had to make do with that one.
As for my room, it was horrible, and in dire need of a renovation. But even a dated room doesn't excuse filth and broken items in the room. I couldn't open the screen as it was bent and hanging by a thread. The bathroom floor had several broken tiles next to the door and tub. The vanity was cracked and splintered, and jutting from its front edge, care had to be exercised when using the sink. Every wall was scuffed and desperately in need of paint and repair, but I think what bothered me most were the chairs, which were stained and looked like they'd been found along the roadside. I couldn't sit in them so I couldn't relax anywhere in the room. Fortunately, we were busy most of the time so we didn't have to spend much extra time in there. But we thoroughly enjoyed the Steak Street Restaurant nearby, which was a welcome oasis after spending any time at all in that hotel.
The hotel provides a shuttle bus to the Convention Center. We spoke with many convention attendees while riding this shuttle, both from our hotel and others in the area, and there were many people who paid less, much, much less, for their hotels. But they had booked earlier, so if you want a clean place for a High Point stay, book early.
Overall, a terribly high price (or, I could say "a huge rip-off ") for a hotel that needs the white knight, new furniture and soft goods, and a new management and maintenance crew. I wouldn't stay here again. In fact, I have never been so happy to check out of a hotel in my life!
