The Councill House Bed & Breakfast in Hickory, NC, a beautiful historic Victorian house, is an excellent haven for leisure travelers and business people alike. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while attending a college graduation. We selected the Alan Room, one of 3 lovely appointed suites available for guests.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the innkeepers/owners, Sarah and Michael Talbert. They graciously helped us with our luggage and had a colorful flower arrangement and an assortment of beverages set out for us on our table. We were delighted with the spacious room with gorgeous wooden floors with rugs, the comfortable 4-poster bed, the fireplace, and the rest of the authentic Victorian decorations.
For each of the 2 mornings, we were given a selection of various breakfast items. Sarah is a great cook. You need to try her Italian-style omelet. Delicious! She is also great with French toast, and all the fruits served were so fresh. The ambience of the dining room left us so relaxed, and we could not stop looking at all the wonderful furnishings and memorabilia. From the dining area you could look out the window to the wrap-around porch. It was great for picture-taking.
The day we were leaving, Sarah and Mike were preparing the dining area for a baby shower. The table she set was so nice, and the little appetizers looked so appealing. Sarah mentioned she caters and also hosts parties for events. You can see information about this on her website.
Oh-did I mention your stay comes with a bonus? Yes. It's Sebastian, the Talberts' magnificent, gentle and friendly Weimaraner. We wanted to take him home! However, if you do not appreciate big lovable dogs, Sebastian (with sad eyes and long face) is sequestered to his room.
Staying with the Talberts at their lovely home is an experience we will not soon forget. When visiting Hickory, we look forward to coming there again. My husband and I have stayed at many
B & Bs in the US and Canada, and the Councill House ranks right on top.
