“Decent hotel but some issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2011

We stayed at this hotel while relocating to Charlotte. The staff is friendly and the management staff is very helpful. The breakfast is ok but gets old if you stay there for more than 5 days.

The location is near a fire station so if there is an emergency at night, you will hear the sirens. The dishwasher kept failing and they could never quite fix it. However it is also located across the street from a strip mall with lots of good restaurant options.

“Infestations!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2010

My husband and I arrived to the RI on North Tryon and was initially pleased with our choice of hotel. It was very spacious, updated kitchen and rather cozy. As the evening continued, the room became a little drafty despite the heat on 71 degrees. We informed the front desk and immediately they offered to change our room to a second level. upon arriving, the room was nice and toasty. However, the next day our daughter had oral surgery and then came back to the room with us to recover. She was sleep majority of the time until she felt something crawling on the arm. It awaken her out of her sleep. She raised her weak voice loud enough for us to see the bug and indeed it was a large bedbug. My husband pulled the mattress out for further assessment and we found an entire colony including new babies . He put a few crawling ones in a ziplock bag and took it over to the front desk. Another guest was getting a fax sent by Mae the front desk person. She later said can I help you and we told her our story in a calm manner ( and gave her the ziplock bag). She never said one time that she's sorry or what can I do to make things better. Instead, her and manager were cold, nonchalant and non-empathetic. My husband asked for a full refund and he agreed however, when he asked to be placed in ANOTHER hotel of the same chain he refused until my husband demanded to speak to HIS manger. We went to another "INN" affliated with Marriott ( Townplace suites). It was ok...rather dated but we just wanted sleep. We went to sleep and woke up the next morning and saw a bedbug crawling up the wall!!!!!!!!!! We packed our belongings and shortened our stay. We got on the road to come home!
Please check the sheets, mattresses of these hotels and others. There is an epidemic!

I would like to apologize for the experience you had while staying with us here at the Residence Inn University Research park. I can promise you this is not our normal standard.

You report was the first incident that has been reported at our hotel, and we take this very seriously. We have had the entire property treated for the issue, and will continue as we have in previously, monthly treatment of for all pests not just the ones that you experienced.

I would also like to apologize for the perceived lack of customer service you feel you experienced. Staff and customer service is something that I take very seriously. We like to take pride that our property is ranked 35th our of 611 Residence Inns for customer service, and I can promise that the customer serive that was perceived was not the intention.

Once again I would like to apologize for the issue and look forward to providing an new or potential customers with the quality and service that they should expect from the Residence Inn by Marriott Brand.

“Old School Residence Inn Modernized”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

This property is the old school Residence Inn layout that is more like an apartment style. Not the big box Residence Inn they have been building lately. But it has been renovated and modernized. The only thing that hasnt been renovated is they are still using the old school tube tv's. They call them flat screen tv's but they arent flat sreen tv's. They are told tube tv's with a flat panel face. They need the HD Flat Screen TV's in this hotel. But everything else is perfect. The kitchen area is awesome. The bathrooms are nice. Like I said, my only complaint is the TV. I just really dislike when a hotel still uses the tube tv's. I will stay here if I ever come back to Charlotte. I stayed here overnight on my way to Florida.

“Very Nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2010

I stayed here for attending the All Star Race. It was close to the speedway, CMC-university hospital, it is right on Tryon, close to I-85, I-77, & I-485. There are lots of restaurants to choose from, as well as ample shopping (Northlake mall is close and also Concord Mills), & nightlife. Its about a 10-15 minute drive to uptown Charlotte from here, so you don't get the really congested traffic here like it can get downtown. Still a pretty busy place, though.

The rooms are situated in different clusters of buildings and was kind of confusing at first, but it was okay once I figured it out. I don't think there are elevators, so if you're on the second floor, you just have to walk up a few steps. Its not bad at all. They have a pool, breakfast that looks pretty good, offer wake up calls. I also think they have internet (maybe wifi) as well.

My room was large, clean and spacious with a really nice kitchen area (granite counters, flat top stove, microwave, full sized refrigerator, dishwasher, sink w/ garbage disposal, actual eating utensils, usable pots and pans, etc.). It also had a sitting area that included a couch and a single chair that pulled out to a double bed. And I will add that the room could have accommodated 3 or 4 comfortably without seeming like you're all over each other. The room also contained a desk with chair too. I couldn't have thought of anything else that I would have needed. Even though I wasn't in my room much, had I chosen to stay, I would have enjoyed it. The TV had cable, some premium channels like HBO and showed pretty good, alarm clock with radio.

bathroom had a nice shower/tub with a couple of settings. Floor was tile, I had plenty of towels. The sink area was right outside the shower/toilet area with a big mirror with good lighting behind it to apply makeup, etc. There's also a full length mirrored closet with sliding doors that will house several large pieces of luggage with no problem.

The staff was friendly and eager to help. Check in and check out was fast and easy. All in all, I loved this hotel and will consider staying at more of this chain in other places if they meet the caliber of this one! Very nice, I can't stop complimenting the service.
