If you like very modern styling in your hotels, this is for you. It appeals to those who like lofts (go figure) or rehabbed warehouses- that's the feel of the rooms at this hotel. I felt like I was stepping onto the bridge of a starship, complete with a hologram meeting you at the door- pretty cool. The rooms have an industrial feel that isn't very warm and cozy. They are clean and bare and efficient (your key card 'powers' the room, as in, no power without it being 'plugged in'). There are not many things nearby, but are a close drive away. The customer service is top notch. There's a bar, pool open until 1, and breakfast made to order. This hotel definitely caters to a younger hip crowd. Check out my photos.

This was our second stay at this hotel, and it was just as great as the first. The service at check-in and all throughout our stay, was attentive and friendly. They even greeted our little dog with a smile, and delivered a dog bed and treats to our door within 10 mins of arriving. The hotel is funky, and a nice change from the boring lot we find while traveling. We also had our 2 daughters with us, and while the room was compact it was set up perfectly and was high-quality and clean. The beds are a dream!! The girls even wanted to take the duvets home. :) The pool was sparkling clean despite that fact that no one was in it, and it was really warm too. The board games for families in the bar area are a fun treat. The little food station off the front lobby is small, but offers everything you'd want for a healthy breakfast or snack. This hotel is perfect for both families and business travelers alike, and will definitely be our hotel of choice when we are traveling in the area.

A while back, I had the decided pleasure of staying at the Ballantyne resort, but recognizing that I would only be spending enough time in a hotel to clean up and sleep, decided to give Starwood's new Aloft product a try.

It was a study in opposites to say the least, however, Aloft did not suffer from the comparison. The two properties are simply to different to compare, and as an inexpensive, low-frills property, the Aloft shined.

It is a bit off-putting when you first walk in--music is pumping like it's a night club, and the lobby is arranged in the same fashion. But upstairs is quiet, and the rooms very sedate. The room's total square footage is very small, however, they have arranged it in a manner that is both stylistically pleasing and comfortable. The sleeping area is separated from the closet and sink by a modular wall that serves as the headboard on one side and closets/storage on the other. Through the sink/closet area is a small bathroom with a WC and shower. Complimentary products are Bliss, which I rather liked.

While compact, the room was both clever and comfortable. The hotel provided minimal services, and that was reflected in the price. I would definitely stay in this or another Aloft again in the future, particularly if I was spending minimal time in my room.
