In full disclosure - I'm partial to Historic Hotels. And since I'm a southern girl, I'm especially partial to Historic Southern Hotels. While Green Park Inn may not have it's own spa, golf course, etc. - it does have a spa and golf course very close by, and it does have a good chef, very helpful and friendly staff, a great pianist on weekend evenings, a small museum, possibly a few friendly ghosts, and beautiful mountain views and quaint Appalachian towns all around. (If you love history and antiques, hiking, biking, outdoors, mountains, photography, arts and crafts shops, southern cookin' - you'll love Blowing Rock, Boone, and the area.)
We made reservations fairly late for "leaf season," but still had a very comfortable double queen with balcony and walk-in closet. Hot water took a while to get to our shower/tub - but finally made it. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast both mornings we stayed (it's included - biscuits and gravy were good, but no grits), and for dinner our first night - the food and menu were great, decent wine selections although they were out of Malbec - the service at breakfast seemed to depend on your server - ask for Louis. Desk clerks/staff were very helpful with area attractions and will assist in recommendations and/or reservations for spa, golf, recreational activities. We loved listening to the pianist in the parlor in the evenings!

Just FYI - if you need/want anything - ask housekeeping. We asked front desk for more water as indicated on the card in our room - and were referred to the bottled water in vending machines. We asked housekeeping to bring us an extra carafe of water the next day, (and extra towels), and they did. I mention this only so other visitors will know to just ask housekeeping for any needs - they will get you extra towels, water, etc.
I hope to visit Green Park Inn again soon - it has the best of the past and present, with friendly Southern charm.More
