We stopped here for one night on our trip back to Perth from Exmouth. The choice of non-camping/caravan accommodation is very limited in Carnarvon, which looks to be a bit of a dump to be honest, so we were pleasantly surprised by the standard of our 'executive' room. This had obviously been recently refurbished with flat screen tv,modern air-con etc but the tiny bathroom revealed what the room would have been like without this upgrade - very 60's/prisoner cell block H. As a result our kids were disappointed with their room which was advertised as 'standard' and had obviously not been upgraded - furniture, bedding, tv and air-con were all really dated, although we all had comfortable beds and slept well. They offer free internet which is a credit to the hotel given its remote location. Hotel has an on-site restaurant which served decent food and in contrast to other reviewers I thought it was a reasonably competitive price (everything seemed expensive in Australia to me). However the service left alot to be desired given the fact that it was almost empty when we ate and our waitress was hapless, bless her. She eventually poured two drinks down me and my brother-in-law. Generously, the hotel didn't charge us for either drink!! This is a typical motel-type hotel where guests park outside their rooms and so there was a bit of noise early morning as the fishermen in the next room loaded up and departed. Despite the experience, staying here was preferably to the 9 hour drive we faced otherwise and that's probably the reason for many people staying here!
