“Good standard of accommodation. Food a bit pricey. Island - Beautiful!”

We have just come back from a 4 day long weekend at the New Inn on Tresco.

Our bedroom was excellent – a lovely clean and bright double with views overlooking the sea. The quay was only a few minutes walk away too, which made for just a short morning stroll to catch the daily boat trips to the other islands.

The pub itself has a nice seating area outside with sea glimpses, and we were extremely fortunate with the weather, as we had blue skies most of the time, which you don’t tend to expect in October!

All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere in the pub itself, even though it wasn’t very busy, was really warm and welcoming.

Food-wise, we weren’t over impressed. It was quite pricey on both the food and drink front, but we did expect that due to the Island’s unique position. However, it was the overall standard of the food that we were slightly disappointed with.

We booked on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis, but if we came again, we would only book B&B as we thought (for us personally) it would be cheaper to pay for our evening meal day by day.

Breakfast however was really enjoyable. Lovely bread and their full English was excellent.

Tresco itself is beautiful, as are the other islands we visited: St Martin’s, Bryher and St Agnes, For a relaxed holiday – go out of season and keep your fingers crossed that you have weather like we did. See the photos!

“Rip-off sandwiches - avoid”

Sited next to the quay The New Inn is an obvious stop for trippers. We stopped for a pint and a sandwich.

Oh dear - The New Inn’s cheese sandwich (cost £8!!) comprised two slices of bread, each about one inch thick, with a scrape of something yellow and three small slices of Cornish Yarg cheese – plus a bit of salad. Unappetising and awful, and I wish I’d taken a photo to show you. The ham and crab sandwiches cost £9 and £10!!!

The beer is good but the sandwiches are grossly overpriced and very poor. Can’t imagine why I didn’t complain and make a fuss – maybe I had the holiday spirit.

“Good but outrageously expensive”

We stopped for a sandwich lunch, two sandwiches, one bottle of mineral water, one glass of rose and one bowl of chips and the bill came to £30 which is a staggering amount. Service was of a reasonable standard (he did smile when he told me the total cost !) and the food was excellent, but........

We stayed for a week and could not have been looked after better by the staff and maangement of the New Inn, Tresco. Food is excellent, position is vefy good and rooms nicely decorated and comfortable, although our first room had a verfy soft bed and so we had to change rooms. Highly recommend this Inn and we will be going back.

“The New Inn, Tresco, The Scillies - 99% perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2010

We are just back from a wonderful week at the New Inn, where we have stayed before. We were blessed with fantastic weather; the Inn is good as ever, and the layed back atmosphere is so relaxing, albeit with excellent service from everyone. Particular mention should be made of Rachel, Linda, and of course Robin the Manager, who all 'muck in' and nothing is too much trouble. If Tresco is a little too 'busy' for you (no cars and of course very quiet) St. Agnes, Bryher, and St.Martins are an oasis of absolute peace and tranquillity. The walking is superb.
