“Great welcome, perfect location to discover the Black Forest.”

We were thrilled with this hotel. After days of hiking and enjoying all the Black Forest has to offer, we came back every evening to swim in the heated pool and relax in the saunas. The family that runs the hotel doesn't speak much English (or anything but German) but they made us feel welcome and at home during our 6-day stay. They set the breakfast table with candy "hidden" at my son's place every morning! They really went out of their way to make sure their guests had everything they needed. The photos on the hotel website (http://www.akzent.de/hotels/akzent-hotel-hubertus.aspx) are exactly what you'll see when you go. They only serve breakfast, but the restaurant across the street is really good and offers a wide range of local dishes.

“Ideal location for the Black Forest”

We originally intended to stay at the Hotel Hirsch, but at 4pm they had a sign on the door "come back at 6pm". As if anyone wanting a room would hang about until then to find out if they had space!! So we tried the Hubertus next door (also a ***) and were given a warm and friendly greeting and given the choice of two rooms. The one we chose had a balcony overlooking gardens and with a view up the Peterstal valley. The room was spacious, clean and nicely appointed with a fridge to store your beer and strawberries! Although the website says they don't take credit cards, they do as from June 2010 (Visa/MC). Also free WiFi

Breakfast was an above average buffet with a wide choice of the usual German fare. The hotel has no restaurant but several - including the Hirsch(!) - are nearby.

All in all we were very glad that the Hirsch was closed.

Down sides are fairly limited parking and the fact that the proprietress does not speak English. However even our basic German got us through without problems.
