We just stayed in the hotel last week with my girlfriend and my sister and it is just great. The Hotel is situated in a small village right on the banks of the Saone river. Its about 45 min to both Beaune and Dijon. It is a nicely renovated Chateau (castle) with a lot of old stuff in great state. The entrance hall with a nice seating area, an open fireplace and a lot of ancient pieces of everyday "castle-life" gives you an impressive welcome. To the chateau belongs a huge and well-cared-for park with a restaurant terrace to sit outside, an outdoor swimming pool and a small river flowing through it.
We've had two "Caractere" double-rooms in a side-building right next to the castle. The rooms were reasonably sized, had a "french bed" like you get it everywhere in France. (It would compare to a "princess size bed" in the US and you have to share the sheet). The rooms including the bathroom were very newly refurbished (one could still smell the paint a little).
You can also have dinner here in a nice and noble restaurant which serves great fine french food and good wine at reasonable prices for the quality and ambience you get. The breakfast is served in the winter garden, an annex to the main building. The quality of it can unfortunately not catch up with the dinner - so we've only tried it once.
If you stay for more nights, consider dining in the neighboring town of Gray, there in the old town you will find another very nice restaurant, "Le relais de la prévôté" that serves excellent fine local food at slightly lower prices. It is located in a 16th century house and has a huge open fireplace in the dining room and you can sit outside in an old court. the food is fantastic.
All in all, we can only recommend the chateau de rigny. It's a great place for a long week-end escape.
