My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Hacenda El Porvenir! We stayed three nights here, one night in a "Hacienda Room" with Private Bath, and two nights in a "Machai Room.”
The Hacienda Rooms are really quite nice with a comfortable bed, great views, a heater, and warm soft furnishings. The bathroom although very small was adequate. The Hacienda Rooms all seemed to be in one of the separate buildings to the main Lodge and they were very quiet and comfortable. Hot water bottles and chocolates were delivered to the room before we went to bed!
We were lucky, when we stayed in the Machai Room #5 we were the only people there! Phew! Essentially on the upper floor of the main Hacienda building there is a long corridor - like in a boarding school with perhaps ten? or so Machai rooms coming off it. The doors are curtains, and the dividing walls are bamboo (or similar). So if you want space, quiet, privacy and a good sleep - book the more expensive rooms! With just the two of us it was OK, if there are more people here than that, then as other reviews mention it would be quite noisy and a little cramped!
That said, the rest of the Hacienda is fantastic. We did a great five hour horse trek up to the hill tops above the Hacienda which was simply amazing. Great vistas, loads of fresh air and an excellent trip. The next day we did a full day tour to Cotapaxi National Park, with a drive up Cotapaxi, then walk to the refugio (definitley go up the zig zag route and not the direct approach) and then on to a small glacier not far from there. Incredible! We also visited the near by lake where we say wild horses playing, and quite a few birds on a one hour walk around it. Our guide was great, although not an English speaker we conversed well in my really bad Spanish and he was very professional.
The food here is really good, as is the service from the very friendly staff. We loved the warm fire places and all the huge bouquets’ of roses spread literally everywhere around. Highly recommended!
