“Very inspiring! Memories for a lifetime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed here a few days on our trip across east africa and loved it. The service was great, the views were amazing and we saw amazing animals! We hired a driver for two weeks and he new all the trails at each of the parks and was a great addition to our experience. This is a great stop, just make sure you take the small boat tour, they go right up to the animals and I have some of the most amazing photos, and dont worry about the boat hitting the hippos, it happend like three times to us and the driver made sure to raise the engine so they would not get hurt :)

“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Reaching Mweya Lodge is easier through Masaka rather than Fort Portal;
amazing location of the Lodge - on top of the peninsula overlooking either side of the lake;
you may be stuck behind slow moving elephant traffic to reach the gates of the Lodge;
lovely rooms over looking the lake - the sound of Kampala traffic get replaced by the guttural grunts of the numerous buffaloes; excellent sit-out restaurant and very good food;
wifi at common areas only;

keep your insect repellents handy - however these are harmless flies and no harm done

excellent service and refreshing stay!

Room Tip: check out the tented lodges; you hardly feel the hum of the a/c even for such a quiet and calm surrounding!

“Stunning Location”

Coming from staying a week at smaller lodges this was a location based choice but one that was a pleasant surprise.
Our arrival saw both warthogs and the "Band of Brothers" Mongoose Family greet us and as stated the elephant Rampant and the view form the lobby area really shows off the location to a stunning level.
The rooms were comfortable and lots of hot water and the set up in the room with the mosquito nets going across the full width made moving around at night a lot easier than normal.
We also went on the boat trip (but choose one of the smaller private ones) and the who;le experiance was stunning after 5 days of savannah and Jungle the open water made a nice change and the bird life was prolific and close for some real good pictures.
The food and ambiance of the bar and restaurant was good but it was the location and views that really made this lodge.
For us the only downside was the arrival of one of the ocassional fly infestations which whilst they don't bite or harm you (and provide food for the bats and flycatcher populations) did make the late evening on the balcony uncomfortable, but with the bar area well cut-off and the rooms well netted this was just a minor feature to an otherwise comfortable and pleasant stay...and the views more than compensated.

Thank you for your positive review and we are extremely pleased to hear you had a wonderful time at Mweya Safari Lodge.
In your review you mention "fly investations" and for the information of other readers these are in fact what are known as lake flies which are harmless small bugs that during season are attracted to the lights at night.Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to stop them and it is part of the Africa experience.
Once again many thanks,

“I'm now in love with Wart Hogs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

When you walk in the lobby you are slammed by the most gorgeous view of Lake Edward (George ?...hhhmmm). I had read the reviews that stated this was more like a motel so I was a little worried because the group I was traveling with, Adventures for Singles, has had a very bad track record lately, but this place felt wonderful. Our rooms were in a row (like a motel I suppose) overlooking the lake but the feeling was pure Africa with Wart hogs on our lawn and an amazing view of the lake out our bedroom glass door. The pool was nice. The place felt safe. The staff was absolutely wonderful. My friends used the bar extensively and were very happy with it. There's a nice seating area in bar as well as a small out building overlooking the lake. There's WIFI in the lobby only but it's free. I liked the view so much I opted out of the activities one day to sit and sip and watch the wart hogs and soak in the view. I saw a pride of lions hunting through my binoculars that morning from the bar of the hotel...it was a WOW experience. The boat ride on the channel is not to be missed. We saw animals everywhere but there on the channel between Lake Edward and George they are sooooo plentiful. It was one of the highlights of my trip. Seeing the hippos, cape buffalo, tons of birds, elephants, wart hogs ♥, etc. was what it was all about. Our rooms weren't fancy but they were comfortable, worked very well...nice. I think the only negative was the box lunch. Bring some protein bars just in case it doesn't appeal to you but I think everything else will.

Room Tip: Any overlooking the lake...but I think they all do

“Great experience”

Arriving at Mweya it is an amazing sight. The Lodge staff are very welcoming. The rooms are a decent size, clean and our room had a lovely view of the Kazinga Channel - the hippos, elephants, buffalo just bathe in the edge of the water. The pool is lovely - over looking the river too, the food was good, the staff lovely, the surrounding areas great sights. Would recommend everyone to spend a night there on their safari. Just Lovely....
