I debated whether to give an average or very good rating for Simba Safari Camp for several reasons. Initially, my reservation made two months in advance was lost and fortunately, I contacted the camp two weeks before departure and discovered this was the case. The camp offered two complimentary nights in the dorm as a way to make up for the error (I had the entire email exchange of my reservation request documented). The dorms were decent, but not appropriate for my parents in their sixties. My main concern was the ill-fitting mosquito nets that did not allow for comfortable sleeping since they did not properly cover the beds. The camp would do well to have nets custom made for the dorm beds, as they have for the beds in the rooms.
My husband and I camped in an overgrown patch of grass designated for camping, but not cared for. Many other campers set up their tents in the sloped grassy area just behind the restaurant which seemed fine enough, but we worried about the noise possibility and finding a flat space.
The food service and timeliness was excellent. The camp caters very well to early morning safaris and took breakfast orders the night before and had everything ready at the requested time. This is a great service! Additionally, a vegetarian option was always available for dinners and the prices were reasonable.
