“Great budget option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Good budget safari camp, range of accommodations and pricing. Very clean and I was impressed with the enormous towels and linen, considering the price. Would certainly stay again. Booking was messed up a little and communication by telephone a little taxing, but it was quickly remedied and I was very satisfied in the end. Food great and beers reasonably priced. On ordering food, we were given a time that our food would be served, and they almost made it to the second! Convenient location for the park, just a few minutes drive away. Depending on your arrival time, it might be possible to save money on park fees by staying outside the park.

“The place to be ...”

From my point of view very nice place to stay especially if U like places with spirit and not just spotless places that doesn’t fit into the local nature and parks. Nicely done camp with different options of accommodation (I was staying in “banda” – nice and clean room with toilet and shower and hot water, towels, and soaps…all included. There is also a place to put your luggage and clothes – even some hangers). Generally the room is very nice, only think that I find a bit not practical is the mosquito net that looks nice but once is opened the insect can enter very easily and it’s hard to get rid of it. There is also cosy bar/restaurant with really nice food. Price of the drinks is comparable with any other places I have visited in Uganda. Stuff in the Simba seemed to me very friendly, helpful and even capable! From the places I’ve stayed in was this one I prefer the most.

“A nice and friendly place with a spirit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

A really nice place to stay. No big luxury, but the place has a style and spirit that I very much liked, built with natural materials, wood and stone, simple but nice, and very clean. We stayed in a triple room (but just two people in), which was ok - plus all the rooms have a small terrace/verandah in front of them, where you can just sit and chill, which is very nice. There's hot water, though the pressure in the showers is relatively low, though that is understandable since they use a solar-pumping system.

The food was lovely (they somehow managed the omnipresent ugandan vegetable curry thing taste different!), AND they cater for vegetarians.

My biggest praise, though, goes to the very friendly and agreeable staff, and the management. The evening we arrived, at about 10:30pm we found out that there was a small problem/misunderstanding from the touroperator in the organisation of our activities for the following day. In spite of the late hour, the manager of Simba solved the situation and organised everything so that by 6:30 the following morning all was perfectly in order. Probably the best and most efficient problem-solving experience we've had throughout our stay in Uganda! Well done!

“Good value for service and early morning visits to QENP.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

I debated whether to give an average or very good rating for Simba Safari Camp for several reasons. Initially, my reservation made two months in advance was lost and fortunately, I contacted the camp two weeks before departure and discovered this was the case. The camp offered two complimentary nights in the dorm as a way to make up for the error (I had the entire email exchange of my reservation request documented). The dorms were decent, but not appropriate for my parents in their sixties. My main concern was the ill-fitting mosquito nets that did not allow for comfortable sleeping since they did not properly cover the beds. The camp would do well to have nets custom made for the dorm beds, as they have for the beds in the rooms.

My husband and I camped in an overgrown patch of grass designated for camping, but not cared for. Many other campers set up their tents in the sloped grassy area just behind the restaurant which seemed fine enough, but we worried about the noise possibility and finding a flat space.

The food service and timeliness was excellent. The camp caters very well to early morning safaris and took breakfast orders the night before and had everything ready at the requested time. This is a great service! Additionally, a vegetarian option was always available for dinners and the prices were reasonable.
