“Katara Lodge -- Magnificent View --”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Katara Lodge was by the far our favorite place in all Uganda. Perched high above a valley, we had breathtaking views. We loved the bathroom -- a claw foot tub that looked out across that valley -- it was truly amazing. The water pressure was great and plenty of hot water. For our two night stay we had early morning delivery of coffee for me and tea for my husband along with little sugar cookies. The service was great, the atmosphere peaceful. Our meals were delicious -- Although this Lodge is not in the park, it was such a spectacular place with breathtaking views that was well worth giving up being in the park. We drove in the morning to our game drives and came for lunch each day. It had a romantic atmosphere. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Room Tip: They all looked great from my perspective.

“Wonderful lodge”

We had a wonderful couple of days at Katara on our last trip trough Uganda & Rwuanda. This place has wonderful view of the Rift Valley. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Cottages are really huge and very clean! Meals are also excellent. It is a bit of a drive into the QEP for the gamedrives (30 min).

“a magical place to stay”

Sleeping under the stars listening to the elephants rummaging around below the escarpment was a magical experience. (The bed can be rolled out of the room to the huge balcony. Beds are covered in a mosquito net.) The room was palatial, and beautiful, with the most draw dropping views over the QENP. THe staff were kind, well trained and attentive without being overbearing. Pascal the manager, was outstanding; kind, conversational, knowledgable and informative, ensuring the the Lodge was extremely well run. Sadly there was only room for us for the one night - (having booked a good 4 weeks plus, prior to our arrival. Thoroughly recommend this Lodge.

“Our favorite hotel in Uganda”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My wife and I recently completed an 8-night trip to Uganda and our favorite hotel was definitely Katara Lounge. The rooms are beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful and the view is fantastic. I recommend this lodge to everyone.

“Perch yourself on the edge of the western rift valley and enjoy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

Katara Lodge is first and foremost an amazing location on the edge of the western Rift Valley in Uganda. The sloping site commands amazing views of the savannah clad plain on the floor of the Rift Valley - across the plain are the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Edward. There are seven cottages - each a cross between a banda (thatched wooden cottage) and a tent. The tented bits can be zipped closed or open - letting the view come right in! Our cottage had two double beds - one of which had wheels so that it could be moved out under the stars onto a verandah. Sadly the weather wasn't good enough to take advantage. Given that it was cold in the evening it was great to have a 'hot water bottle' nestling in our bed when we returned from dinner. Food was very good, there's a new Ugandan chef at Katara Lodge, just arrived from a stint in Dubai. The welcome and hospitality at Katara was perfect, all our needs attended to promptly and with a smile. Great place - $230 full board for two people - at first glance maybe a bit pricey, but no regrets. We wanted to stay longer but not surprisingly it was fully booked. Will certainly return.

Room Tip: There's plenty of walking to do at Katara - if you have a mobility problem this is probably not...
