“a magical place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Sleeping under the stars listening to the elephants rummaging around below the escarpment was a magical experience. (The bed can be rolled out of the room to the huge balcony. Beds are covered in a mosquito net.) The room was palatial, and beautiful, with the most draw dropping views over the QENP. THe staff were kind, well trained and attentive without being overbearing. Pascal the manager, was outstanding; kind, conversational, knowledgable and informative, ensuring the the Lodge was extremely well run. Sadly there was only room for us for the one night - (having booked a good 4 weeks plus, prior to our arrival. Thoroughly recommend this Lodge.

“Our favorite hotel in Uganda”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My wife and I recently completed an 8-night trip to Uganda and our favorite hotel was definitely Katara Lounge. The rooms are beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful and the view is fantastic. I recommend this lodge to everyone.

“Perch yourself on the edge of the western rift valley and enjoy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

Katara Lodge is first and foremost an amazing location on the edge of the western Rift Valley in Uganda. The sloping site commands amazing views of the savannah clad plain on the floor of the Rift Valley - across the plain are the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Edward. There are seven cottages - each a cross between a banda (thatched wooden cottage) and a tent. The tented bits can be zipped closed or open - letting the view come right in! Our cottage had two double beds - one of which had wheels so that it could be moved out under the stars onto a verandah. Sadly the weather wasn't good enough to take advantage. Given that it was cold in the evening it was great to have a 'hot water bottle' nestling in our bed when we returned from dinner. Food was very good, there's a new Ugandan chef at Katara Lodge, just arrived from a stint in Dubai. The welcome and hospitality at Katara was perfect, all our needs attended to promptly and with a smile. Great place - $230 full board for two people - at first glance maybe a bit pricey, but no regrets. We wanted to stay longer but not surprisingly it was fully booked. Will certainly return.

Room Tip: There's plenty of walking to do at Katara - if you have a mobility problem this is probably not...

“Wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

I stayed two nights at the Katara lodge and loved the wonderful views from the cottages. I especially liked that the cottage was open air (you could close it if it rained) so you felt like you were really outside. The star bed was awesome too. The food was excellent. The staff was outstanding, especially Pascal, the manager, who took me to see some of the most excellent parts of QENP. The only minor complaints I have are that it was my understanding that the bill covered full board, but at the end, I was presented with a separate bill for drinks (non-alcoholic, including water), which was a surprise. I also suggest that the prices of the game drives be more transparent and posted on the website. Otherwise, a wonderful stay.

“breathtaking location and accomodation in QE. NP”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

We have stayed two days in this lodge on full board and just entering the main building accomodation felt like " living in a different world" . The private location of each cottage with terrace and panoramical views are incredible for a european . We have enjoyed every minute of our stay in this lodge . Staff is very friendly and with attention on customer minded service, food - cooking very tastfull dishes hygenical prepared by the chef . Drinks , beers and wines are served at cheap prices . Manager Patrick is very professional and reflects his attitude towards his staff . Relaxing area with comfortable seating located close to the swimming pool is lovely , all " imported european " stress disappears at once . Good location to start game drives , chimps tracking Kyambura Gorge and Kazinga channel . We strongly recommand this lodge to future travellers in Uganda . We like to congratulate Patrick and his team for the nice memories taken home to Belgium ..... keep your standards on the same level and go for it !!!
Only the short road towards the lodge is poor but belongs to the African way of live ..... after rainfall and heavy showers a 4WD jeep looks minimum to us .
We have stayed in the lodge on nights of 27 + 28/09/2011 with four people . Family gerard Janssens - gaby Patent and neighbours .

Room Tip: Room are very clean and well maintained , space between each cottage gives you an extra private feel...
