“Beware the bar bill!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

As described before this Camp is in a beautiful setting, tents fine although my chemical toilet didn't work very well, BUT the food and service was average to not very good, the staff did not seem to want to talk to you, there was no alternative to the food menu, so if you didn't like the food then bread was the option. Breakfast was not great either.
My main gripe is the bar prices a glass of wine at all the other camps and lodges I stayed at was between 6,000 to 8,ooo shillings Here a small glass of wine was 20,000 shillings ! When converted to dollars with a very poor exchange rate $1 to 2,000 shillings it made this wine ridiculously expensive and certainly spolied the two days I spent here. The wine turned out to be Namaqua a wine you can buy by the box for about £16.00 in England! Several other clients were complaining about this.
Considering the company also own the fabulous Buhoma Lodge I cannot understand why this Camp differs so much in value and service.

“Amazing! This is Africa in the bush”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

This lodge is just wonderful. It has a beautiful location at the riverside. Elephants come to drink as do baboons, birds and red-tailed monkeys. There are lot’s of monitor lizards walking around as well as weaver birds. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is tasty and they serve complementary water at every meal. The tents are clean and cozy. Just remember you are in Africa in the middle of the bush it is not a city hotel. That is why it is so nice. You hear lions roaring at night and hyenas calling. In the morning you are being waked up by birds. If you want they will bring you coffee or tea at your tent to wake you up. It is a smaller lodge so much more personally than the bigger lodges in the park.
The bucket shower was much better than some of the showers we had in the lodges. They are planning to make flush toilets in the tents so that will be very nice. At the moment you have a chemical toilet for nighttime use and a flush toilet near the tents for daytime use. These are clean and you will be watched by the red tailed monkeys in the trees, who has that at home?!
The wildlife viewing is the same as other parks in Uganda, there is not a lot of wildlife there. But in this area you have a good chance of seeing lions and leopards and lot’s of Uganda Kop and topi’s.

“The worst value accomodation - ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2010

This camp is not awful - it's fine. But thats it. It has nothing special to recommend it. There was a distinct lack of any warmth or interest in customers. A brusque explanation of how everything worked & then you were left on your own. In our case this involved a 90' tree falling in the night right beside our tent. No-one came!! No-one showed any interest or concern. The tree falling was not their fault - the issue was their lack of response or concern. This summed this accomodation up - fine - but nothing special and certainly not worth the extortionate cost. We stayed at over 10 places in Uganda and paid much more and much less. This was the only one that was not value for money - at all!!!!

“Real tent on river side.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

A real tented camp right on the river side for early and late safari drives.
Spacious tent with (allow 5 minutes after order) plenty warm shower water and inside overnight chemical (back-up) toilet. It just started to rain when we returned at dusk, but water service was top.
The early morning was a real experience with hundreds of chirping weaverbirds twittering about in the large acacia tree in front of our tent. Shy monitor lizards shooting away. Yes, tree-snooring lions do hang around in trees.
For day time spacious regular toilets just behind tent.
Good dinner and breakfast. Battery recharging facilities in the open lounge tent.

“I can't think of a better way to stay in a wilderness! This was my third trip.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

I don't where LouisLondon stayed - his name doesn't appear in the guest register and I checked! The beds are comfortable, setting glorious by the river with outdoor log fires at night. Food pretty good. Service attentive, friendly and willing, although occasionally a little chaotic. Wandering through the trees to the central area at night by torchlight is really special! We saw a hyena make a kill, a leopard, lions in and out of trees, elephants, buffalo and many birds and reptiles too. The outdoor loos with a view of the forest are spectacular. The chatting of the weaver birds is a constant background. The manager was thoughtful and informative, although I can confirm the smoking - he is eccentric in a good way and enthusiastic about the camp and its surroundings. Last time in Jan 2008 I took my whole family (6 of us) and we had a great time too. I can't think of a better way to stay in a wilderness!
