“Beautiful introduction to Tanzania Safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Hosts Sally and Carl made us feel welcome and the other staff contributed greatly to a pleasant experience. Game drives were expertly guided and we saw many animals, some, such as wild dogs, quite rare. Tents were extremely comfortable. Vehicles were comfortable for our group of four and the view from the dining area over the Rufiji river, especially at sunset, is magnificent.

Room Tip: Some of the tents are quite far from the dining area. For those with mobility issues, ask for a lowe...

“Fantastic family Christmas Safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Whilst on a six month secondment to Dar I took the opportunity to fly my wife and children (aged 10-15) out to Tanzania for a Christmas holiday and spent 2 nights at Rufiji River. The airstrip was surrounded by giraffe as we arrived and after a 5 minute drive to the camp we were shown to our accommodation which was fantastic - a pair of large 'tents' under a grass roofed construction with 2 separate bathrooms and adjoining balcony overlooking the river. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. After lunch we had a couple of hours to relax before doing our first game drive on the river where we were able to get up close and personal with hippos, crocs and a wide variety of birdlife. The following day (Christmas) we had a full day in the park with our driver and guide who were absolutely tremendous; their consumate knowledge of the park ensured we got to see even the very rare wild dogs and looking into the eyes of a lion 6 feet away is something I will remember for a very long time! We did a half day game drive the following day and again the endeavour and experience of Whiteman and Mtele ensured we saw the elusive elephants! The whole place is well maintained, the food is a set menu which is fairly simple but perfectly adequate. There is a well stocked bar and the swimming pool provides a welcome relief after a hard day of game chasing! Fox use open-sided vehicles (unlike most of the others we saw) which really adds to the safari experience with just fresh air between you and nature! We all left wanting lots more - Well done to Sally, Carl and the rest of the team.

“Fantastic family holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

This was our second visit to Rufiji with my husbands 2 boys. Last time we stayed in 2 tented huts & needed to separate the adults as the boys were too young to be by ourselves. As this is one of the few parks that allow children, we came back, expecting to do the same even though they are older now. Imagine our delight when informed on our arrival that we would have a family unit, where we would all be under one roof. This was such a huge improvement on our previous accommodation - 2 large rooms, one with a double bed for my husband & I and 3 single beds in the boys room. We had 2 separate bathrooms which connected the 2 bedrooms. One bathroom even had a bath as well as shower. Both bedrooms faced the river (although mostly the view was blocked by trees) and we felt no need to cover the windows at night so that the dawn light woke us in the morning.
Once again we were highly impressed by the guide and driver - we had the same two for our entire time. They interacted very well with the boys (which had been our experience last time also) - this alone is worth the cost of the stay for us. We had a really lucky boat safari on our first afternoon, one full-day game drive with a picnic in the open, and 2 morning game drives. We saw many many different animals and birds, often at very close quarters. As photographers, my husband and I had a wonderful time, but importantly, the boys did too. On the afternoon they had off, they swam in the pool & relaxed in their room or in the dining area.
Our only quibble (& a minor one) is that the vegetarian food for my husband & I was somewhat unimaginative and repetitive. Also, until we actually requested their menu, the food for the boys wasn't very child-fussy friendly. However, once we realized there was a problem, we asked for specific meals for the boys, which they happily ate. They also accommodated our request to eat earlier than the usual 8pm start.
All in all, the experience was as good as it had been the first time and we felt we had received good value for the (for us) very expensive holiday. Rufiji has a great location, and the staff are outstanding and the animal viewing opportunities excellent. We would wholeheartedly recommend this camp to families in particular.

“Visit of south Tanzanian parks”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

After a fantastic experience in Zambia in the summer of 2009, our tour operator proposed us a visit of the parks of southern Tanzania.
The resort initially appeared very comfortable with swimming pool and large rooms with a beautiful view of the river.
The program proposed boat game drives, walking safaris and game drives by car.
Animals in this area of the park are very shy, especially elephants, also because hunting of big fives is allowed on the opposite side of the river.
Our guide knew very well the area and tried to show to us everything wign was worth to see.
Our accommodation was not memorable, first of all, not exactly friendly to management.
Quality of the food was not adequate as we expected, quality and variety were poor.
We understand that the resort is average taking into account prices and tipology of the accomodation, but we think that Foxes Safaris could do something more.

“Wonderful, relaxing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

Wonderfull place. Wonderful people, both management and employees.
Time for our visit was beginning October, and before the rains.
The pictures on the web-site are, for the time beeing, not updated, and do not show the higher quality and standard we experienced. Also visit http://www.tanzaniasafaris.info/
Stayed in a family-tent with separate bedroom for our three teens, and had two baths.
Safarichoices: Boat, Jeep or walk - or just sit on the pouch or outside the restaurant to enjoy the nature for real. We are really, really satisfied.
