“Pearl of the Selous”

Our 5-night stay at Beho Beho has to be the highlight of our Tanzanian safari. Beho Beho really lives up to its name and our expectations were not only met but actually exceeded! The lodge staff and management team, headed by Kimberley and Ian, had a lot to do with this, as they tried so hard to keep us happy and surprise us at all times (I don’t want to spoil this for you so I won’t go into further details).

The place was pure luxury and indulgence without being pretentious, which you must agree is a difficult balance to achieve! The rooms and facilities were first-rate, the food and wine were gorgeous (well done to Karin for the high quality of all meals: breakfast, lunch, tea-time and dinner – 5 star cuisine!) and the atmosphere was very sociable with guests and staff sharing stories at mealtimes in various wonderful locations. It felt like being in a top restaurant with friends (with the occasional hippo/elephant visitor as a bonus!). We met some great people from the UK and the US, and shared a couple of very entertaining dinners with the owner Charles Bailey, his operations / finance guys Sean and Dominic, and his witty Marketing side-kick Georges, who excels at British humour.

Last but not least, the guiding was outstanding. Twice a day, you could choose between game drives and game walks, which were equally spectacular. The highlight of our game drives was seeing a pack of wild dogs with their pups, two days in a row, whilst the highlight of our game walks was a close encounter with 3 lions followed by a surprise appearance from a hippo! We had excitement but also emotion, and I confess that watching a mother impala fighting relentlessly to save her injured lamb from a martial eagle left me in tears. A tough reminder that nature can be cruel…! Many thanks to Walter, Ian and Heribert for sharing their knowledge with us and to everyone for looking after us so well.

This is a once in a lifetime experience. Go and experience it for yourself.

“Like staying at a friend's country house...in Africa!!”

After 2 weeks in Tanzania, we spent our last 4 nights at Beho Beho - it was like staying at a friend's country house! The location up in the highlands means incredible views and a constant, refreshing breeze that keeps the temperatures comfy, even when it's hot. Our stone and thatch banda was luxurious, with an open front overlooking the plains below, a comfy 4 poster bed and huge bathroom with a open-air stone shower! Kudos to Karin as the food was excellent - delicious, imaginative and beautiful to look at! The birthday cake was an unexpected treat, a wonderful way to celebrate the day! The safari drives were special with comfortable 4-guest vehicles, the lake trip was wonderful and all the guides were very knowledgeable, with different guides each day enabling you to learn different things from each. Walter, Onesmo and Heribert were amazing! While we didn't do the safari walks, others raved about them and their overnight stay in the bush, something we'll try the next time! And we will return - 5 trips to Africa and Beho Beho ranks right up there with the best of the best! Bob and Mary Beth Wheeler, California

Please keep this secret, this is a magical fantastic place that Mr Bailey has created.
Having travelled extensively around the world, i can honestly say this is truly a special part of the world.
We were lucky enough to have dinner on our last night with the main man,he said to me that many people take out of Africa but he wanted to put something back....he surely has.
He has assembled many of the best people to run this establishment, and as a result we had a wonderful time.
The interior design is world class and i have no hesitation of recommmending this holiday destination.
Well done Mr Bailey you have a winning combination!

“Beautiful safari, wonderful people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

My fiancee and I stayed at Beho Beho for 5 fabulous nights during September. The rooms were spacious and luxurious. Our room had a spectacular, panoramic view of the Selous Reserve below us.

The guides were warm, friendly and experts in their jobs. We felt safe at all times. The safari program was varied and interesting. We absolutely loved the trip to the lake, and the delicious bush breakfast with the hippos!

Meal times were genuinely enjoyable. Everyone seemed to have a true passion about the animals, and sharing stories is a great way to make new friends. My fiancee does not eat pork, but this presented to concern for the imaginative and talented chefs.

During our stay we were also fortunate enough to meet the Bailey family, who were very welcoming & entertaining.

The holiday is one in a lifetime. I cannot find anything negative about the place.

Other reviewers have criticised the curfew at nightfall. Personally, I think this is a nonsense. We saw as much wildlife at the Beho Beho camp watering hole whilst eating our dinner as we did while on game drives! We even had an elephant having his dinner outside our room.

A magic place, we look forward to going back.

“A very special safari lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We had an amazing 5 days at Beho Beho, with one night in the Bush Camp as a special surprise for my husband for our 10th wedding anniversary. The rooms and setting here are spectacular, but what really sets this place apart are the wonderful staff and incredibly generous hospitality. The food was delicious and varied, and meals were enjoyed in several well-positioned settings in and around the lodge. There was great flexibility on where and when you could walk or drive, so it was possible to drive in the morning and walk in the afternoon, or vice versa. Often on the drives you had the jeep and guide to yourself so it was very personalised and the guides' knowledge was second to none. The bush camp is spectacular and makes for a very memorable experience. Ian, Kimberley, and the whole team went out of their way to keep the surprise a secret and everything was expertly and attentively arranged. The camp itself is even more beautiful than I expected, with every last detail thought of. After sundowners we sat by the fire with drinks and canapés before enjoying a delicious meal and very pleasant company. The camp is wonderfully intimate and it was a privilege to enjoy this real once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is rare to go somewhere where the people, the food and the service are equally impeccable and I would not hesitate to recommend this very special place.
