“Absolutely superb”

From the moment you arrive at the camp you are treated to a level of unpretentious, quality and service that way beyond our expectations. Anne Marie and her team were amazing. The attention to detail was superb. Cold towels and chilled sherry on arrival back from safaris, coffee and biscuits in bed every morning. Surprise breakfast on the river bank as part of an early morning walking safari, dinner on the veranda of our lodge with Masai in attendance to keep the wild animals at as safe distance. Superb safaris on land and water and on most days we never saw another tourist. Guides were excellent we saw wild dogs, lioness and lion, giraffe by the hundred, wilderbeast, elephants and of course hippos by the the thousands. For a superb safari, the finest accommodation, the friendliest staff, great access to the game and other wildlife and no crowds this has to be The place to stay.

Room Tip: Lodge number 5 had great views and close to pool.

“Eye ball to eyeball with a leopard”

Eye ball to eye ball with a leopard

Seriously just went to review this place and found it was number 3 I'm gob smaked there is any where in the area that could possibly be better than this place. It's like living In a dream.
First time on Safari and we were advised the Selous has some of the best guides in the world. I had noooo idea what we'd let our selfs in for.
When your picked up off your plain strip they have the best trucks out off all of the jeeps waiting.
The tents are breathtakingly beautifully done. I showered around 6 times a day as it was such a treat to shower outside.
We went on a boat safari, 2 drive safari's and a walk Safari.
No joke I got over my fear of flying by coming here as I realised there where bigger fears on earth like hanging out in a lions den with no sides to your truck!
Or on the walk safari when we where being watched by a leopard who jumped out the bush next to us a roared and sped off like lightening.
The picnic down by the river with crocodiles watching you and elephants washing.
As we were honeymooners a dinner on the veranda in your tent was such a humbling experience it bought a tear to my eye.
The food is excellent tasty home made cooking. In the morning the elephants walk through camp.
Late evening a lion just walked past me on the veranda of our tent followed by a giraffes, some monkeys and an elephant in the space of around 20 minutes.
In the morning sitting at the writing table all the birds come down to feed all around you. Whilst you eat your morning cookies and coffee.
Some actually perching on your book whilst you read.
November is a great month to go as the animals come to the water so you literally get to see everything.
We are new to safari but some people we spoke to literally have been 12 times who all said this place was exceptional in terms of seeing so many animals and in relative seclusion as you'd be the only truck ever to be looking at the animals. Only once did we pull along side another truck.
The accommodation is immaculately clean, there is a swimming pool here, amazing service, excellent guides mwita and mpoto.
The tents are fit for a king!
We went in 11/10 Jenny was a wonderful manager and they all make you feel special every step of the way.
I will also add I'm scared of everything and they make you feel very safe. Like the night lions were hanging out by our tent they walked us to dinner with an armed masi rather than just a spear. Anyway book this place it's not possible not to love it and worth every penny.

“Intimate Details of a Selous Safari experiance”

Having spent a get-away weekend at the Selous Safari Camp with the family has given us all a new lease on life. What a fantastic lodge with intimate details at every step of the experiance. We loved the bush experiance combined with all the pleasures of home. Activities included a Sundowner Boat safari, Exlilirating Game Drives and a breath takingly beautiful bush walk, connecting us through intimate details again, to this the largest faunal reserve in the world.
Well done to the team at the Selous Safari Camp, looking forward to meeting you all again.
Dino & Quindon

“A wonderful, unpretentious camp”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

From our arrival to our departure at the camp, we were made to feel very welcome and had an amazing stay. It is really hard to pinpoint things that were particularly good as it was all wonderful, but the following were just some of the things that made our 4-night stay so memorable:
- Jenny, Emiel, Gerald and the other staff were all fantastic and made sure that we were really looked after. On our arrival we were told that boat safari had already been arranged for us that morning, which was great. Every tent was assigned a butler who was your waiter and go-to person for drinks, etc throughout our stay and ours, Mau, was really lovely.
- The safaris were all great. Although it rained a fair amount whilst we were there (because of the short rains), we were still able to go on walking safaris, boat safari and the game drives and all were great, especially because the staff (and not only the guides on safari but also the staff around the camp) were so knowledgeable about the various animals and plants. Another plus point to safaris in the Selous was how few other vehicles were around on the game drives. On our busiest drive, we saw only two or three other jeeps (one or two of which were from the selous safari camp) - in fact we certainly saw more lions during our safaris than people.
- The food was fantastic and plentiful - We couldn't believe that the team can create such refined and tasty food in the middle of the bush. We were also really impressed at how reasonable the drink prices were.
- The tents were lovely and spacious with lovely bathroom facilities (the outside shower was great) and they all had big porches either side of the tent that was perfect for sitting out on with the morning wake-up coffee. Because the tents were all spaced fairly far apart, we were visited frequently grazing giraffes and waterbuck and some amazing birds who would come up really close to the tents.
- Although the number of bugs increased once the rains started, there were relatively few until then and surprisingly few mosquitoes.

There were many other small things that made our stay wonderful, like the meal that we had on our terrace on our last night, the sundowners, the cold towels that were waiting at the end of each safari and the shots of liquor that were waiting for us at the end of each evening safari. However, there really were too many of these special touches to list them all.

All in all, it was the best place that we stayed during our honeymoon and we would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
