This is a terrible hotel. We got there long enough to see how dirty it was, and to see questionable characters loitering around the actual rooms, which are half a block back from the office (the office is in a separate building on the street). We had a family emergency and had to leave immediately, so while on the road, we tried to call to cancel - the phone rang and rang. We tried calling 5 times - no answer. Decided to call the main Econolodge number - they were nice, but they said cancellations must be done by calling the actual hotel, but we said "How can we, when the don't answer the frigging phone??!! We finally got a cancellation from the main number, but when we called the actual hotel the next day to confirm the cancellation, we were still charged for a room for one night, even though we didn't stay there. The snotty receptionist insisted that someone was available and that we couldn't have called because someone would have answered. She was either misinformed or a liar. We could tell from her combative tone that she had been through this before. From the other reviews here, I can see why.

“We had no problems”

My two teen children and myself just spent 3 nights at this hotel on a Back to School shopping trip. I have stayed here twice previously in 2007. Reading recent reviews I took a chance and stayed again for the price and indoor pool. We are budget travellers' and our expectations are such. We stayed in Room 108 and had no issues whatsoever. We inspected the room immediately upon check in-early on a Sunday aft. and found a spotless bathroom and two double beds with pillowtop mattress'. I am a smoker so no issues there. The fridge, micro, and air conditioning worked great. T.V. channels were a little limited but both kids were on the free WiFi when we were there and it worked great. Pool was little used and refreshing. Breakfast was limited but fine. Top quality bagels and cream cheese, kids loved the fattening pre-packaged donuts!! Too bad they wouldn't get a waffle maker. All staff were friendly. Saw some sketchy guests but have seen that everywhere. We enjoyed our stay and got what we paid for. Enjoyed proximity to all restos, especially fast food. Depending on your expectations this could be just fine for you, it was for us and I would stay again.

“Liar, Liar Pants on Fire”

I booked this hotel through Travelocity only because there were no other hotels available in Watertown for the night I wanted to stay. First, the hotel website gave the impression it was a quality hotel - wrong, the pictures were probably taken years ago and are not representative of what we encountered. I had trouble finding the office because it wasn't even attached to the hotel building - tough to figure out especially at 10:30 pm. After checking in with my family, we entered the building (no lock) and were totally shocked with the filthiness of the carpets and walls. Our room was not any different, except for the strong smoky, musty stench. The fear and shock on my family's face said it all (my 10 year old son actually became ill). My reservation specified a non-smoking room and there was an ashtray on the table - a smoking room. I went to the bathroom only to meet up with the resident cockroach. I immediately drove back out to the office and complained to the owner about the smoking room and the cockroach. He alleged that Travelocity sent a fax to the EconoLodge's central booking centre where they would enter the specifications of the room to his establishment (He does not see the fax) and that Travelocity made the mistake in booking the smoking room. I asked to see where a non-smoking room would show up on his computer screen and he showed me a booking reference number . . . really? I explained about the cockroach and he asked how many. I insisted that when the lights are off for the night, there would be more. He wanted to spray my room and I refused to allow him to expose my 2 kids to harmful pesticides. Just then, a woman comes in asking about a reservation she had made with Travelocity and the owner pulls a fax from the fax machine and processes the request . . . really? I was told that was handled by EconoLodge's central booking centre? After a big debate, the owner "agreed" to cancel my reservation (note to self, need to verify my credit card statement). When I asked him to show me on the booking print out where the reservation stated a smoking room, he showed me "DD" and proceeded to explain that those initials meant "smoking room" - really? After that experience, we had no choice but to continue our drive in the middle of the night. BUT, the silver lining was that we did not lose sleep over fears of sleeping at the EconoLodge, Watertown.

Room Tip: Don't get a room.

“Do not stay here!”

Had booked one night for a shopping trip. Good rate but hotel room was dirty. Bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned and the sheets on the bed were dirty.
Complained at the front desk and we were given another room which was cleaner.
Hotel is run down, wouldn't stay here again.

“Quality for price paid.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011

This hotel is right on a main street in Watertown so the location is nice. The office is situated near the road and then the actual hotel (which is two buildings) is down the road a little ways. My husband and I stayed here two nights the weekend of July 4th. (The 2nd and 3rd of July). The first night was fine, it was quiet and I counted over 28 cars from where I could see so obviously not that bad of a place. Unlike other reports I have seen, our room was clean (no stains on the wall or in the bed anywhere--we had room number 405 in the building across from the pool--the other one is attached to the pool.) Everything was in working order (lamps, shower, etc.) the second night when we returned from dinner the hallway smelled of weed but our room did not so other than that everything was fine. Overall we paid about 75 a night on a holiday weekend. Not bad if you ask me. Bed was comfy--no bugs and was clean. The only bad thing I could mention was that the room needed some cosmetic work done. The heater was a little rusty as was the toilet paper holder and a part of the sink.
