We spent our honeymoon in Le Touessrok and it was a dream-comes-true holiday. Imagine a beach with golden sands, lapped by turquoise and jade waters of the Indian Ocean, and surrounded by paradise gardens with swaying palms and thatched roofs of the beach umbrellas. How much more romantic can it be?
From the moment we arrived we were treated as celebrities; the staff were always efficient, friendly, warm, and eager to please. They are very proud to win all the awards for the best service and not without reason. All guests are treated like royalty and most of the time it feels very genuine and honest.
As honeymooners we were upgraded to Frangipani junior suite, which was comfortable, tidy and spacious. Do not expect an opulent Dubai décor, but functional, well kept and very clean modern rooms equipped in everything you may need, including coffee espresso machines. Bathrooms are fantastic, with huge oval bathtubs and lovely step-in showers, fluffy bath robes and excellent amenities. There is a bath menu with all sorts of exotic baths that your butler may prepare for you at an additional cost (or for free if he feels like it), which - I do not have to add - we enjoyed a lot.
The food was excellent. We dined at Safran once and it was OK, but I much preferred less pretentious atmosphere of the main buffet restaurant. There was always a large selection of freshly prepared food and desserts to die for. We often had our breakfast on the terrace, where we could bask in the morning sun observing beautiful and somewhat cheeky Mauritian birds. It was very pleasurable.
There are plenty of activities you can take part in free of charge, including tennis, archery and water-skiing. Both islands belonging to the hotel are brilliant, our favourite being Ilot Mangerie with plenty of canaries and other birds, picture postcard beautiful beaches and again extremely polite and efficient service. It is a real paradise, with bright colours and all the calm of the world. You just cannot stop smiling.
The resort is designed in such a way that it feels half empty even when actually there are many guests – you only realise at meal time how many other people are there. We were always easily able to find a secluded cove when we felt like enjoying the beauty of this place in private.
When I read the reviews about le Touessrock, people often mentioned that staying here would drain your wallet. I cannot agree with this. The only things that are costly are alcoholic drinks and SPA treatments, which is the case in most 5* hotels. (Well, I must admit the prices at their hair salon are clearly insane). But I was rather surprised that if you decided to finish your dinner with espresso, tea or water they would not charge you for it at all. We only paid extra for alcohol and soft drinks.
I think the best summary will be to say, that when we travel, we usually do not spend all days in the hotels, no matter how luxurious they are. We rather try to explore and see as much as possible and disappear after early breakfast only to come back for a late dinner. In Le Touessrock we stayed in the hotel for quite a few days, as there were so many things to do and such beautiful places to see, we just did not feel like going out.
Room Tip: Frangipani junior suites have excellent bathrooms
