Set in a beautiful setting with great snorkelling straight from the beach. We upgraded to a deluxe room and the view was amazing I did see a standard room which are smaller and a little more basic but fine for the price. The food is good quality not a huge amount of choice but everything cooked well. Staff well it depends who you got, one guy behind the bar was rude beyond belief but the rest on the whole were fine. Trips to do, we enjoyed the catamaran day trip and also the day to see the dolphins, although on the day we went there had been a storm, so visibility not good but everyone else that went said they thought it w great. Getting around is fairly easy if you want to use the local buses. Nightlife is very limited although the hotel make a good effort with singers etc. there is very few places you can go to in the evenings if you want to get out and about although a trip to the local casino in mahehbourg is a good laugh for a change.

It is a great setting and great value for money. Very few English stay here but found all the nationalities nixed well and very friendly.

Hope this review helps but please e mail me if there is anything you want to know

“Good value for money”

Arrived at the hotel just in time for the dinner buffet, which was well worth it. Funny how people have their favourite food and pile their plates up, like it's their last dinner ever ! The standard room was adequate but not fantastic, so we upgraded immediately to a deluxe room on the second floor overlooking the pool area and sea. For an almost negligable increase in price, the room was far better and well worth it ! The shallow calm waters and coral fish on your doorstep is fantastic and even just watching the local guys jumping off the "island" into the sea, doing their flips and twists is entertaining. The staff were good and always eager to please. The evening bands & entertainment was sometimes a bit cheesy, but still good fun !
I would defintely go back for another week.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms, second floor for best views & privacy.

“B-hotel in B-location with B-service and B-everything”

You have these kinds of hotels everywhere. Wether you're in Sri Lanka, In Barbados or in Thailand, you can recognize them by the Neckerman signs, the used Peoples magazines, or those from Germany of Holland, the dirt in the corners and the lack of maintenance. They are advertised by large tour operators from UK or Europe. This Blue Lagoon fitted the picture. The rooms are very bare, musty and smelly with humidity. Birds are flying around everywhere. The food was okay really but there is absolutely no atmosphere in the dining area where everyone has 'its own' table. I found the beach very pleasant, to say something positive - especially for little kids they can swim, snorkle, find snails, shells and urchins easily (careful!). We arrived at 4 PM for 1 night only (thank goodness) and could not get any swimming towels because they are only available in the morning (huh?). We actually paid a pretty sum to stay in the place (200 Euro - half board) and for that it was not good enough. The wireless was not free, not even in the lobby. The hotel is also quiet noisy and our neighbors were pretty loud - I think the poor man was sick in the stomach from something. Need I say more? If you can get a good deal and you have little children - why not, stay for a couple of nighs to enjoy the beach and the pool. If not, try one of the B&B nearby: Paradise Bird, Chanteau Eau and others.

“Very good stay, good snorkelling”

As ex South Africans, we live in Mauritius two to three months per year. This hotel is one of those litlle gems you don't want to advertise too much. It is situated on Blue Lagoon marine park, opposite the Shandrani; also a beautiful hotel but at 4 times the price.
Protective reefs ensure safe bathing and some of the best snorkelling in Mauritius. In fact this is our main reason for visiting this hotel. The coral in this area is undamaged and there are lots to see.
This is a rather old hotel, rating about two star, but its pool area and the lovely beach more than make up for the size of the rooms. The grounds are small, and yes, you have to "book" your lounger if you want to be right next to the pool, but if you are willing to walk another 10 metres or so you will find other loungers.
The Standard rooms do not have balconies, but they are the same size as Superiour rooms. We prefer to take a room without sea-view, and use the saving to stay longer.
Tips; Most hotels in Mauritius use very low wattage screw-in bulbs to save electricity, but this leaves rooms dark and uninviting. We spend a couple of bucks on our own light bulbs, and end up with nice cheery rooms. And do bring your own wine/spirits. A bottle of decent red wine can cost as little as Rs200 at the supermarket... hotel prices Rs800 to Rs 1000.
The buffets served at this hotel three times a day, are very good value compared with other, more expensive establishments.
Book direct with Mauritian hotels. the saving could be as much as 30 - 40% out of season.

Room Tip: Seaview room on ground floor offer no privacy, limited sea view. Rather ask for 2nd floor or higher
