“Expensive - yes, dated - yes... but utterly charming and recommendable”

Yes, it's expensive (you are in the Hamptons remember). Yes It's dated and could do with refurbishment (so do 80% of all other inns in the US).

And yes, I would stay here again anytime. The Village Latch Inn is utterly charming, the enormous grounds are romantic and private with something to offer for couples as well as families with kids. The breakfast is fresh and plentiful, the staff is helpful and the whole place oozes character.

The swimming pool is relatively well maintained although certainly not five stars but most importantly - you are only five minutes from Cooper Beach, the number 1 rated beach in the US. And beautiful it is, you have to go and see for yourself.

There is a great variety of different room types and I suggest getting in touch by phone (or in person if you are already in the area), rather than booking online as we managed to get a much better rate than advertised.

“Very pleasant but could be less expensive”

After reading the numerous scathing reviews we were very skeptical. Instead we found the Village Latch to be a perfectly comfortable country-style B&B in a great location in Southampton. While the rate should have probably been closer to $250 it is understandable that the proprietors would charge $450 given the short season, the paucity of options in the area and the desireablity of the location. It is true that the inn could use some serious updating. A hotel at this price should probably have flat-screen TVs, higher end amenities in the bathrooms, modern shower heads, better linens, newer carpeting, perhaps a welcome basket etc etc. But we knew we weren't staying at a Four Seasons.

The folks at the front desk were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fine. Everyone has their own preferences but we thought the coffee was actually very good.

It is not worthwhile trying to refute all the negative reviews. Suffice to say that we really enjoyed the Village Latch and would recommend it to anyone who has the proper expectations.

“This is absolutely the worse place we have ever stayed in our 27 years together.”

We reserved on short notice with less than 3 weeks before we needed to be there. No wonder they had vacancies. WHAT A DUMP. The furnishings came from Goodwill. The bathroom sink had separate hot and cold faucets. When was the last time you saw that. We paid $595 plus 10 % service fee. There was no service. For that price, we expected a Relais & Chateau level inn. What we got was the pits. It is run down and dirty. We will never go back and will spread the word about this hovel.

The Village Latch Hotel Inn is a real find, very european in nature. Great staff, friendly and knowlegable. If you dont like the Village Latch, make sure you don't go to Martha's Vineyard or Block Island. You will find the same charming historical accommodations there.

“So Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

If this was a $59 dollar night place or even a $150 night place - I doubt I would take the time to write a review. But for $350 it was awful from the minute we walked in. The front desk seemed nice but had no knowledge of the area. Gave us a map with names of restaurants but didn't know anything about them. Not that big of deal.
But when we got in the room, we were was shocked. It was so outdated. The only decent thing about it was the mattress, which was comfortable. The bathroom was a joke. The shampoo was the cheapest thing they could buy. There wasn't any conditioner and they didn't restock the next day.
It was like anything they found on the side of the street they put in the room.
The absolute WORST part was the breakfast. We weren't expecting a full spread - thank goodness but.... how hard is it to make passable coffee? It was like they were trying to save money and use small amounts of coffee beans. It was so watery. There were muffins out for children to put their hands all over (which one did) and that is about it.
The staff was not that friendly. The decor was horrible.
The location was great to walk to the village, but I'm just trying to find something nice to say.
