“Wish It Couldnt Have Been Like This”

On 03/30/08 I paid the Saranac Club and Inn, $862.47 a deposit for my honeymoon. On 12/04/08 I received an email that they had to cancel my reservation due to illness. I understand illness does happen to people and i hope the owner is well. But as of 02/11/09 I have not received any money from the business. I have made several attempts to make contact with the owner of the business with negative results. I understand times are tough, but a simple phone call or an email from Tim MCLELLAND saying that "times are tough" I would completely understand. I guess i am just too trust worthy.

“Saranac Splendour!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2008

Our hostess, Kristen, gave us such a warm, friendly welcome and could not have been more helpful...from suggesting places to visit, to recommending superb places to eat ....loved Cafe Rustica :)
A beautiful, tastefully decorated, cosey 'home', with welcome extras...unlimited use of computer/printer, DVD access...which we made good use of!
Kristen your breakfasts were legendry!!!

“A safe bet but slightly expensive”

Good breakfasts and nice rooms. At off peak rates a good deal. At peak price I would say over-priced. I could go on about the nice things ( food, ambience, service, sheets and towels was excellent). The (minor) drawbacks of this place......a few cobwebs, noisy grandfather clock, tight parking - (don't bring a motorhome!) thin walls and the room TV was bit small. Only real reason I would not go back would be price.....

“WE loved it!”

Wow, I don't know about several of the most recent posters, but my husband and myself LOVED this place. Yes, the building is old, but it's charming, it's beautifully furnished, and it's situated in the most lovely, historic neighborhood. And the village is NOT a dump...it's not as lively as Lake Placid, but that was one of its advantages for US. Yes, we liked Lake Placid, but it was so nice coming back to this quiet little town and this great B&B. Mike, the owner, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful (he made all of our dinner reservations and his suggestions were spot on!) We stayed in the Junior Suite, but Mike was nice enough to take us into all the rooms for future reference, and we LOVED the Bird's Nest: hunter green walls, beautiful Adirondack furniture, and a really cool jacuzzi. What's not to like...different strokes, I guess. Anyway, we will definately be back.

“Misleading”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2008

I completely agree with the people from Toronto. The ads are very misleading. The photos are misleading. The people were quite nice. The wireless internet is none existent. I found an unused and unnoted DSL connection in our room I hooked up that worked. Amenities minimal. My car covered in pine sap that cost another $200 to clean up. This place is too expensive for what it is and that is why you must pay in full in advance. We still bailed out a day early. How anyone can put a 4 or 5 rating on this is amazing! I have stayed in 4's and 5's and this is a 2. By the way, Saranac Lake is pretty much a dump....go 10 miles and stay at Lake Placid.

We thank the reviewer for staying with us, but we deeply regret that he/she did not enjoy his/her stay. We endeavor to meet all of our guests' needs, and in doing so make ourselves available for any guest request/complaint/suggestion. While we are happy that the reviewer found us to be nice, we are sorry that he/she felt misled by our website's photos of rooms and the building itself: the photos accurately depict the rooms and the interior and exterior of the property (as the vast majority of our guests would attest) and nothing has changed since the photos were taken, so we don't understand what the reviewer is alluding to Re: the wireless connection, we are sorry it did not work for his/her laptop. Unlike many B&B's , we not only offer a small business center with a desktop for those guests who do not travel with a laptop, but we provide a wireless bubble over the property. However, in the event that the wireless connection does not work (it happens!) we provide free DSL connections in every room, as well. I'm not exactly sure why the reviewer is complaining that he had to resort to the DSL connection when many establishments of our size have NO free internet connection, but nevertheless, we are sorry he/she was dissappointed. As for the car, our guest parking area is located in an area that WE think is quite charming, set among oak and pine trees that the Adirondacks are famous for. We're sorry that the reviewer was dissatisfied with this aspect of our property. Finally, we're sorry that the reviewer was dissappointed with the historical village of Saranac Lake: hundreds of thousands of visitors come to the village each year and appreciate its art galleries, quaint Main St., as well as the gorgeous natural surroundings. We regret that the reviewer was so dissappointed with it.
