My wife and I attended a wedding in Rochester, NY, and stayed at the Strathallan New Year's eve, and departed on New Year's day. The hotel is located near the downtown area of Rochester. The reception for the wedding, and a breakfast buffet were held in the dining area of the hotel, and the food and service was first rate. Our room was spacious and generally well appointed. In the main portion of the room, there was a small dorm size refrigerator and a sink. There was a large closet, with an enclosed safe, and the bathroom was large, but needed updating. The rug in our room was ripped in several places, and the sliding glass door/windows which opened onto a small balcony were absolutely filthy. I have since learned that this hotel had been a senior housing facility until recently, and they are in the process of upgrading. Overall, the service was outstanding, and all the staff we encountered were courteous and very helpful. After we checked out and returned home, we received an e-mail from the director, inquiring if our stay had been pleasant, and inviting us to return, as well as comment upon our stay. When we responded, and mentioned the rug and window issue, we received not one, but two e-mails in response. In the final one, they advised us that they would be crediting a portion of our charges back to our credit card, in compensation for the inconvenience. To me, that indicates a hotel with the right attitude toward its customers. As I indicated earlier, they are in the process of renovation, and I feel that when those renovations are completed, that this hotel will rate much higher.
