I will start by saying this is top to bottom one of the best hotels I have stayed at. The staff alone makes it a home away from home. HUGE tip-of-the-hat to Marsha at the front desk for brightening each and every day at this hotel. She is an asset to this company and this hotel. I wish there were more people like here in customer service!
I stayed at the Residence Inn Rochester for two weeks in mid-December for a work training session. I stayed in one of the single suites on the ground floor in building 10. The rooms are awesome - everything that you'll need or want for an "extended stay." The HD flat screen TVs are amazing and have a wide channel selection - the best I've ever seen in a hotel. Only complaint about the TV is that they blocked the Buffalo Sabres vs Ottawa game. BOOO
Surrounded by quiet woodlands and fields yet right next to the best shopping district in Rochester, NY with several key plazas and the best mall in the area all a few minutes from your doorstep – this couldn’t be a more ideal location. Not to mention more restaurants then you will ever have time to visit unless you're staying for a month!
Rooms are in really good condition - but don't expect them to be perfect, it is a hotel that sees many people of all walks of life check in and out. Problems with my room were limited to; the sliding closet doors being off their tracks despite my best efforts to get them back on, a three inch slice in the center of the linoleum kitchen flooring, and the toilet being just slightly off level so when you sat down you felt as though you were making your way towards the shower stall. Several stains on the carpets were an eyesore but nothing outside of normal wear and tear. Internet connection is slow at best - at least where my room was. This is definitely something that could use improvement.
The buildings are all nicely renovated - and their NO SMOKING policy is legit. Read a review on here before my stay about people getting charged for smoking even though they didn't. Their policy is clearly posted in many locations - including on the 'welcome' card on your nightstand. It explains that they are committed to providing clean air in their hotel rooms. If you baked out your car with cigarettes and then stunk up your room - good for the hotel for charging you for stinking up the room. The next family deserves clean air more then you do the right to stink it up. New York State is serious about making life for smokers as inconvenient as possible to make quitting easier. If you smoke - think about staying somewhere else. Props to the hotel for committing to providing clean smelling rooms for the rest of us. You honestly notice the difference in air quality if you know the story I am referencing from a previous post and read the comment on the card next to the bed.
The breakfast is AWESOME - but if you're staying there for more then two weeks you will quickly get tired of scrambled eggs. Thankfully the many many options of yogurt, waffles, bagles, muffins, eggs, breakfast wraps, breakfast sandwiches potatoes, etc. every day allow variety if you want it. Complimentary coffee always a big plus!!
HAPPY HOUR in the lounge is a must-do, especially if traveling as a part of a group. Made many great friends in my two weeks enjoying many free beers and unlimited wine. Okay - not unlimited but the fact this is included is another great perk to wind down after intense job training.
I really REALLY hope for the chance to stay at this hotel again. Beautiful layout, nice buildings, all the amenities of home, and now with an outdoor firepit, happy hour and dinner specials - this truly is an all inclusive extended stay getaway.
Misc Tips:
Showers don't have a grip on the bottom of them so be careful that you don't slip.
The "Basketball Court" is now a half court (the other half is now a super classy firepit) and the concrete is covered with rubberized matting like you'd see around a pool in a school or fitness center. Sorry - no NBA regulations here! haha
The maids will open your blinds when they come in. So be sure to check that they're closed before you strip down! My friend learned that one after giving some of our classmates a free show. Yikes!
Kitchen doesn't have a baking sheet! Had to eat my cookie dough raw. WIN!
Roumors of staff going through your belogings. I hope this isn't true - however to be safe I kept my valuables locked away whenever I wasn't in my room. Just be careful and travel smart and you'll be fine. This doesn't feel like the type of hotel that would do that.
Be sure to eat at Tully's and get a cheeseburger - as well as eat at Buffalo Wild Wings and get an order of the "Garlic Parmesan" wings (boneless or regular). You can thank me later. Both have great beer lists too.
