“Nice hotel in a downtown location, but some drawbacks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The Hyatt is a lovely hotel and many of the rooms have a view of the river. The workout and pool area is very nice and the in house restaurant is surprisingly good! There are, however, several drawbacks. Wi-fi is not free, about $10 a day, which I find frustrating when nowadays Motel 6's have free internet access. Printing, even 1 sheet, has a charge. Parking ($6/day) is in a crowded attached garage and if returning at night the environment might not feel so friendly. In terms of location, the hotel is in the middle of downtown, but there is no shopping--or much of anything-- within walking distance.

Room Tip: The river view rooms are very nice at night, with the lights of the city reflected all around.

“Horrible Management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We went for our stay and NYE dinner and were very much disappointed by the way the General Manager, Nassy Saidian, treated our party. It is not the American, Hyatt, service oriented way of customer service and we were extremely upset with the lack of customer respect and service. This location needs new management before it should carry the "Hyatt" brand.

“Not Impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I selected this hotel beacuse it was in downtown Rochester, but was unimpressed by the hotel and cut my stay short to move elsewhere. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, offering to put me in a cleaner, allergy-free room upon check-in. I'm not sure what the implications are of having varied levels of cleanliness, but I wouldn't want to see the 'normal' rooms as my 'upgraded' room was outdated and a bit rundown. The workout facilities were suitable, and the lobby and lounge area are nice, but I wouldn't be interested in returning until the rooms were renovated.

Dear Travel_Bus1,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your most recent stay at Hyatt Regency Rochester. We appreciate all feedback and use it as a tool to continually improve customer service.

I was happy to hear that our staff was helpful and accomodating in finding another room for you, however, I was dissapointed to learn that the room was not acceptable to your standards. I will share this information with the team and we will work together to see how this concern can be resolved.

Thank you once again for your input and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future!

Sincerely,

“Not bad, not great.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

This hotel is about what you expect from Hyatt. As far as value for the money, I don't think it is there. I suppose if you need to stay downtown then this is a good selection. My bed was a bit hard, my pillows feather and flat! Literally, I stacked the 3 pillows I had on top of each other to keep my head cushioned and even then I felt like I was sleeping flat on the bed.
There is a fair amount of noise in the walls, not coming from other rooms. I could hear water swooshing every time someone proly flush or showered. There was creaking noises coming from interior pipes in the walls sounds like someone taping morse code. Also there are not enough electrical outlets in the room to charge phones. The curtain/shade covering the window is cloth sliding on strings with loops that slide up and down and do NOT work. It came only half way up and would not come all the way down and was lopsided. Not a practical type shade for a hotel room window with lots of use. The furniture needs updating, but was nice enough.
NONE of these negative reviews are show stoppers for this hotel though!

On the positive side, the staff was friendly. The food was good. The room was clean! The view was nice from the 21st floor over looking the river. The room is large and roomy. The TV is updated but not a good selection of channels surprisingly. The HVAC works well.
Though this hotel has a lot of room for improvements, it is evident that they are big on clean!
Which is a big Plus for me.

Room Tip: High floor. Overlook the river.

“It's a Hyatt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Not much to say about this hotel. It's a Hyatt so it is kind of nice, clean but nothing really stands out. The hotel staff was pleasant and informative when we checked in. The room was decent with a nice view of the river and downtown. We called to get the blind fixed because it was stuck but no one ever showed up so I had to call again the next day. The room service food was pretty expensive and not great. The $4 croissant was so small and hard it was laughable! I usually get breakfast in the room but I wouldn't order here again it is better to go somewhere else. The barman Illy was really a nice guy, funny and attentive. Overall for the price we paid it was a good deal and I would stay again.
