A lovely grand house in a great setting. The owners were welcoming bit slightly awkward.

The first sensation is cigarette smoke. Then the elegant wood work and decent but not quite inviting furnishings in the living room. Sounds from the common areas came right through the room's door. In particular, the family's bird kept me from falling back to sleep.

Breakfast--pancakes, coffee, fruit, and juice--were banal. Table not maple syrup. Store-brand not boutique coffee.

My mother and I were in Rochester to pick up my son from a summer program at the University of Rochester. (My husband and son had stayed here three weeks early and the Men thought it was great! Especially the food!) My mother and I had a wonderful stay also! We stayed in the room with 2 twin beds and windows over looking the garden. Very clean and quiet. We were able to open the large windows to let the fresh evening breezes into the room.(the room smelled fine, I just love having the windows open!) We were able to see fireworks coming from the riverfront park!!

Breakfast the next morning was delicious! I was given the recipe for Phil's granola! And I continue to make it now!

I would definately return...perhaps for the Lilac Festival!!

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful, furnished with antiques and is three stories high. Our room was on the third floor, which at first had me concerned because I have a problem with stairs. However there's a very nice little elevator!

Our hosts were very friendly, although they kept out of sight most of the time. We were able to order our choice of breakfasts and were served in a sunny dining room.

The house is right next to Highland Park, so there's lots of opportunity for quiet walks and being in nature.

What a beautiful bed & breakfast! My stay there was like a dream, I had to pinch myself several times to remind me that I wasn't dreaming. I stayed there for two days, but I wish I could stay there forever. During those two peaceful days I enjoyed delicious breakfasts, a comfortable bed, a cozy room overlooking a park, the kind advice and pleasant morning conversations with the host, the grandness of the historic house, and the beauty of its Victorian furnishings. What impressed me the most was the quality of service and the amount of hard work the staff puts in to make 428 Mt. Vernon a home away from home. I will cherish the memories of my stay there forever and will make it my mission to spread the word about this amazing haven!
