“Is this a typical Greek Attitude?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Finikia's place in itself is in a good location about 2kms outside Oia, and there is a lovely coastal path to walk along to get into Oia. The rooms are adequate - typical of the island with a tradional cave-like feel and clean, all with exterior doors.
However, our welcome was cold and unfriendly and we felt that we were being a nuisance to the Owner/Manager who was more concerned with getting the paperwork sorted than showing us to our rooms and we were exhausted after an early morning flight. Granted his English wasn't too good but there was no smile and very negative body language.
Once in our room we discovered that if we used the pop-up plug then all the water from the basin ran straight down out of the waste pipe and on to the bathroom floor and round our feet - we reported this to the Owner who literally just shrugged his shoulders. So we washed under a running tap which reduced the leak for the rest of our stay there as nothing was done.

Breakfast is served in the rooftop restaurant which has spectacular views, but is the same every day and brought to you on a tray so there's no choice - tho the hard boiled eggs alternated with ham! However, it was enough and the Bulgarian manager of the restaurant was very hard-working and very helpful. We felt very concerned to hear that he was working a 10 to 12 hour and didn't get a day off, contrary to the terms in his contract.
Having said all of this, we would go back to Finikia's Place as the other options are in Oia and more expensive

Room Tip: All the rooms have direct access to the outside and have good views

“Just gets better”

Just back from 8th visit to Santorini and this hotel. It just gets better each time. Excellent food, excellent location, and excellent company. The hotel is simple, traditional, spotless and well looked after. So it doesn't have a caldera view - but walk across the road and up the hill and you have one all to yourself. We actually like the view over the islands rather than the caldera as we think we would find it claustrophobic after a while.

As for the sunsets - yes they are beautiful. But don't disappear as soon as the sun goes down. Wait awhile and see the sky light up as the sun has gone deep over the horizon. That is when the real colour emerges. Unfortunately the vast majority of people walk away the second the sun has gone, and then grumble that the sunsets are better at home. They have missed the real beauty. Don't be in too much of a hurry - relax and enjoy a drink on the rooftop or your terrace.

All in all another excellent two weeks - and we will definately be back again. The hotel has a real family welcome and the people there are very helpful in every way.

“Peaceful and lovely hotel - we loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

Finikia's Place was the perfect destination for us for half of our trip in Santorini. Clean, well presented, quiet and within walking distance of the stunning Oia. The view, though not of the caldera, is beautiful, especially from the lovely (and reasonable) restaurant. The sunsets are stunning (we thought even better than Oia as you could see the entire bay with the islands in the distance.) The pool is very well kept, and quiet. We were pleased that we were staying slightly outside of of one the main towns - we got peace when we wanted it! In summary:

Beautiful clean rooms decorated in a traditionally style - simple but elegant with a Santorini feel
Very reasonable prices
A great restaurant, with lovely breakfast (included) and open for lunch and stunning sunset dinners. We particularly liked the salads
A 15 minute walk to Oia
Quiet and blissful - no-one over-looking our room or the hotel grounds and we had a private balcony with an umbrella
Don't expect a TV, but why would you need one when you're in Santorini
The hotel organised us a taxi from the airport - it was 30 euros, which we thought a bit steep - but worth it as we didn't want to fight for a taxi!

“20 minute walk from caldera great value”

I stayed at Finikia's place with my girflriend after finding it on trip advisor. Theo and Irene were gracious hosts and the property was clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the breakfast included and yogurt with honey for an additional 3 euro. Prices at the restaurant were very reasonable although we did not eat dinner. Rooms have a gorgeous view of the Mediterranean but they face the opposite side of the island from the caldera, if that is important to you. The king room was spacious and clean although the bed was a bit hard for American tastes. It is a pleasant 20 minute walk to the caldera although not in mid day summer heat. We also enjoyed the half day boat tour arranged by the hotel for 30 euro. Great value as far as I can tell compared to everything else in the area!
