“Pretty nice; depends on your expectations”

We went there just after the hurricane in August because our flight to our original destination was cancelled. A lot of people must have cancelled their reservations to MYC, because we got a rate of $200 something per room by calling right after the storm. The place is really very nice. Our rooms were big and comfortable (though bathrooms were small) with a deck overlooking Lake Montauk. There were also pleasant patios and a small pool to sit by. We got sandwiches from the bar near the pool and they were OK. The hotel allows dogs and we had an issue with a guest next door who left his in his room sometimes. We complained to management to spoke with the guy, but not very effectively. The stereotype of NYers feeling entitled and being obnoxious held true.

The location is great: a short drive to the ocean beaches in Montauk, which are gorgeous with miles of white sand. Truly, some of the best beaches in the world. The hotel offered a shuttle bus to them, but we drove. The town is small with a few decent restaurants and bars there and in nearby Amagansett. Depending on the traffic, it's a 20-30 minute drive to East Hampton if you want something fancier, upscale shopping etc. Overall, a good base for a low-key beach vacation. However, it seems like some of the reviewers were paying $600+ a night and I would not have been pleased if I was paying that much. MYC is definitely in the 3 to 4 star range.

Room Tip: Lower floors open directly to the outside.

“Nice place and great deal”

We went there for the WE and booked 2 rooms. Rooms were very clean and spacious (we could have rented only one for the 4 of us), view on the sea (we were at the upper level), friendly and helpfull staff, dinner very affordable with 3 meals, great continental breakfast/brunch, that's a great place to stay when you want to visit Montauk area. I was a bit concerned after reading some of the recent reviews but was really pleased by the place and would recommand it for couples or family.

Room Tip: Most of the upper level rooms have sea view

“not worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Stayed at the hotel during their slow season and was very, very disappointed. Restaurant was only open for breakfast, after that you could not even get a coffee, no alternatives were offered for lunch and dinner while the hotel's restaurants were closed. If I had knows it would not have been a big deal but I felt totally mislead, making a reservation by calling in, even asking about the facilities of the hotel and not being told that the place basically shuts down. NEVER AGAIN

Room Tip: if you really decide to go and think twice, book a room facing the water

“Nothing to write home about - expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

My wife and two young children stayed here for three nights during our first visit to Montauk.

Montauk and the east end of Long Island is not anywhere near as nice as the beaches in New England.

This place is okay - nothing special - and is very expensive fir what it is. Rooms are small with two double beds that is not really good for families - I actually cannot think who a room with this configuration would be good for.

I would not return here with or without kids. I have no room cleanliness issues - the indoor pool left much to be desires - I would not permit my daughter to swim in it due to cleanliness issues. Many of the chairs around the outside pool were broken and not usable.

I do not understand the appeal. Go somewhere else if you are going to Montauk - Cape Cod, Block Island, Nantucket are all much better choices!

“Nice Off-Season Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Reserved three rooms for one overnight for a quick off-season roadtrip to Montauk with family. Although the hotel seems pretty old, it is quaint in its own way. The rooms are quite large and have a patio or deck. If you want the view of the water, I suggest the upper level rooms as the lower rooms only had a view of bushes. We were in the main building, which was a bit of a maze to navigate. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
