“Great weekend at Sole East”

My gal pal and I booked a weekend trip here and had a lovely time. We were give complimentary rum punches upon arriving and spent a relaxing afternoon sunbathing on the resort's comfy day beds next to the pool. Our room was super cute and the beds were dreamy -- we both slept marvelously. The only bump in the road was that the batteries in our TV remote were dead, but the concierge soon put that right. Also, the rooms smell fantastic, and the management will sell you a bottle of the room scent spray if you ask. N.B the hotel seems to be pet friendly as well.

“Such comfy beds!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2012 NEW

The hotel smells like a spa. I slept better than I had in a long time. I woke up refreshed and in a great mood. I recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxing time. The pool scene is great. Dog friendly.

Room Tip: Go before Memorial Day season starts.

“Thank goodness we switched hotels for our second night!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2012

I was elated when Groupon offered very deep discount on the regular room price at Sole East, with a slightly more expensive (but still far less than regular rate) deal for a "Garden View" room, which I chose. My issues with Sole East began there.
To make a long story short, the booking process directly with Sole East was a nightmare, as at first the woman who took my call (Jessica?) rattled off a long list of blackout dates within the month-and-a-half validity period of the Groupon, then refused to make me a reservation for later in the summer, using the Groupon value towards a higher priced room at that point. Anyone who has ever used a Groupon knows that the value never expires - if the promotional period expires, it becomes like a gift certificate you use towards the value of whatever you wish; in my case, a night's stay. Jessica refused to allow me to speak to a manager, then claimed SHE was the manager, and we went on from there. I cut my losses, as luckily my boyfriend and I were able to take a day off work within the coming week so the Groupon would get used. We came in late last night, found the hotel lobby to be empty but one key and checkout form left for us, and checked into room 112.
Anyone else who uses a Groupon at this establishment, beware that the photo "tour" of the garden room you see on the Sole East website is NOT the room you will find yourself in. We entered a very small, Spartan, white-washed room, altogether chilly in temperature and decor. The room itself was the size of a private-style hostel room, and the decor was also what one would find in a private hostel room: not much. Basically, we got an Ikea-style boarded bed frame and a small table with a nice flat-screen TV opposite the bed (that TV was the room's saving grace.). An window air conditioner was installed right by our bed, which of course we kept off as the room was chilly enough, but which still allowed bees and beetles to buzz through the grate of the AC and into our room. The bathroom, separated from the bedroom by a closet-style sliding door, at first seemed charmingly European, with the shower floor and bathroom floor being one single piece of slate rather than a separate sculpted shower. We soon discovered that the toilet seat did not stay up on its own, and needless to say the sliding door did not allow for much bathroom privacy. The walls seemed to be truly thin throughout the whole of the property, as we could hear every conversation and activity happening in the hallway and lobby all night. Finally getting settled down to sleep was relatively painless, except for a few stubbed toes on the protruding wooden bedframe, and luckily we could snuggle tightly to fight off the chill in the room. The next morning, we were woken to a taste of the wildlife we'd rather have kept outside: my boyfriend found a deer tick on his abdomen, and I found a beetle on my pillowcase as soon as I got up. Needless to say, we hastened to pack up and move on out. We planned to stay an extra night on Montauk, and being that Sole East's motel sister property, Sole East Beach, had quoted me on one of three available rooms at $159, we were willing to give the Sole operation another try. However, when I met the hostess for check-out and described the conditions of our room and our stay, we got more of the same. The hostess demanded that we pay $20 on top of our Groupon for "room taxes," at which point I repeated the fact that our charges were being covered by the Groupon, and mentioned the temperature of the room, the lack of view when I had paid extra for a "Garden View," and the invasion of insects. I asked that she comp the room taxes and she agreed that such an arrangement would be fair. She then went into a back office - to consult with someone who did not come out at any point - and returned to tell me, "We just don't ever comp taxes." So I shelled out $20 more for the taxes. Did they at least have a travel toothpaste, as hotel concierges usually do for those who've forgotten theirs? Again she had to consult with the guy in the back. "Sorry, we don't give out toothpaste." By then I was on my last nerve (and at no point had we been offered any kind of comment card or survey where I could note my complaints) and uncertain as to whether we should even move forward to the next Sole establishment. I explained to the hostess that we had been quoted ~ $159 for a room at Sole Beach that night, and told three rooms were available a day prior - but just to be on the safe side, would she check her system and make sure the rooms were still available before we walked over to the property? She refused at first but eventually agreed to call over for us...and the promptly quoted us the "last available room," a double room no less, at $249 for the night. At this point, my boyfriend and I just politely handed over our checkout form and keys, turned around and left. We chose to avoid any more Sole mishaps and checked into the Born Free Motel on the beach for our second night, where we happily traded $155 for a king suite with full kitchenette, pull-out couch, and two flat-screen TV's.

Room Tip: If you use a Groupon, take a tour of the property before they assign you a room, so that you feel co...

“Not happy....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2012

Just checked in. Apparently there is a wedding going on and we are only the only guests here not going to it..great! This means tons of guests and their children running up and down the hallway. No blow dryer, refrigerator, or safe in the room. For 270 a night I expect these simple amenities. Bathroom looks scary. Paid $200 to bring my dog. Asked about a refrigerator to store her food was told I could pay $25 a day for one, no thank you! Asked to move to a quieter room away from all th kids from the wedding, was told there was a suite we could move to for $200 more a night. The nice peaceful romantic weekend for my fiancée's 30th bday is not going as I hoped....sole east sucks! Don't come here. Total rip off for a dingy room and bad customer service.
