My boyfriend and i decided to do a quick Friday to Sunday Montauk getaway in the dead of winter. We loved the 70s aesthetic of the Montauk East and were fine with the funky old mattress and kitschy decor.
The first night was terrible because for some reason, even though the motel was fairly quiet, they put us in a room next to four partying 20somethings who were up until 3am, smoking, cursing and making racist jokes. The walls are paper thin, so it was literally like they were smoking, cursing and making racist jokes in our room. Usually I'm the type to flip out on the spot when stuff like that happens but I decided to just keep it cool and try to sleep.
The next morning I went to talk to the guy at the front desk and he apologized and said, "I already kicked them out."
The rest of the stay was delightful. We drove into town and bought a few bottles of wine and some basic provisions and spent the rest of the weekend lying around watching a marathon of all the "Rocky" movies, occasionally venturing out to walk on the beach, which was windy and deserted.
I bet it's a madhouse in the summer, though.
