This was our second trip to Montauk and we were hoping for lodging comparable to our first experience at Briney Breezes. I think that because this was Labor Day Weekend, it would have been noisy no matter where we stayed, but our room at Born Free was right next to a group of young people who definitely enjoyed loud music and alcohol. When we stayed at Briney Breezes, it was the end of June, and although the place was full up, we didn't have any problems with noisy neighbors. Each of the motels gets an equally good rating for being across the street from the beach. Born Free rates slightly higher for being within walking distance to the town. Both motels rate the same for cleanliness as each was found to be kept spotless. At Briney Breezes, we stayed in an end room upstairs, which may have accounted for feeling that we had more space, even though we did not have a separate bedroom as we did at Born Free. Everything at Briney Breezes was in top notch working condition. This was not the case at Born Free. There was no air conditioning in the living room/kitchen area and it wasn't until the day we were leaving that we discovered the ceiling fan light actually worked and was only missing the chain to turn it on. The furniture in the bedroom was cheaply made with drawers that could not be opened easily. And one of the vertical blind slats kept falling off every time we wanted to let some light into the room. The staff was friendly and the price was reasonable, but I don't think I would want to stay at Born Free again.
