The Bed & Breakfast was a somewhat pleasant stay and at a reasonable price of only $165 a night. Most places in Montauk are actually more expensive, especially during the summer months. The rooms were very charming and the location is very good, a block away from the beach. Dody, the innkeeper, was nice, but did come off at first as being a bit cautious of new guests. The house is very old and as should be expected, the pipes are rusty. We didn't realize this and were a bit disturbed to find that our bathtub water was the color of apple cider. I think she said it was the iron in the water. Also, if you come without a car, public transportation (particularly returning from Sag Harbor) can be very unreliable. The biggest negative is the poor water quality but it may also be that Long Island water by itself is not clean.

My husband & I spent the weekend at the Greenhedges Bed & Breakfast in Montauk and it was wonderful! If you enjoy a homey environment and interacting with the owner, being at Greenhedges is like staying with old friends. Dody, the owner, is very accommodating and is full of wonderful stories and information about the area. The location is great. Close to the church. It is walking distance to many restaurants, the Catholic church, and downtown. It is close driving distance to the fishing boats. We didn't go to the beach (too cold) but I hope to go back soon!
