“Hotel is a bit of a dive. The owner lost my shoes.”
We stayed here while doing the Ride to Montauk (a long distance cycling trip from Babylon to Montauk). There weren't many options in our price range. The Lido is fine for a motel, but no great shakes. The room was non-descript and slightly run-down. It could use some sprucing up. There was a faint smell of mildew inside. And the staff was not particularly helpful. The place is conveniently located near most of the action (whatever that consists of) in Montauk.
Basically, I had no serious complaints about my stay until after I got home and realized, a week later, that I had left my cycling shoes in the room. I contacted the owner right away. She promised to overnight them to me after the busy July 4th weekend. I authorized her to use my credit card information. When the shoes did not arrive the following week, I contacted her to follow up. (I would have called earlier, but was trying not to be a pest.) She told me in an email that she had left the shoes in the laundry room and "forgotten about them" and that a maid had thrown them away. Other than a one-word "sorry," that was the end of it as far as she was concerned. I expect much better care and customer service (not to mention graciousness) from places I stay in.

This is not a review of the motel, it is anger over the customer's shoes being thrown out. Unfortunately, the shoes were held in the laundry room for a week, and they were thrown out. The customer does acknowledge that she had been happy with her stay, until this occurred.
