Just wanted to warn anyone who deals with this place what the Avalon people did when we tried to get a room there recently.
I had called the day prior to our trip and was told by a gentleman who answered that there was a room available for one night (which is all we wanted). We did not book at that time, however considered we might like to stay there.
When we got to Montauk the next day, we phoned the Avalon to find out if the room was still available. This time we got a woman on the phone. She said " Yes", she had a room available. I said that we were very close to the resort and asked if she needed a credit card at that point to secure the reservation. She said yes to that as well. I proceeded to get my credit card out of my wallet. She said that check in would be later that day, not now. I asked if we would be able to bring our things there and perhaps just leave them in the room. She abruptly changed her tune on a dime and just matter of factly said that the room was not available for 1 night only!
I mentioned that I had been told it was by a man who took my phone call just the day before. She didn't care at all about that. Very bad business if you ask me!! In my mind she should have honored that. But she didn't even acknowlege that. It was as if I hadn't even mentioned it at all. She was very dismissive AND very strange. Since I had her on speaker phone, my husband heard the call as well and thought it was very "off".
We ended up staying at the Beachcomber Resort, which had such a great view and so many things going for it. But the whole exchange with Avalon was very dissapointing.
I do not recommend this hotel to anyone because of the way we were treated.
