If you're looking for gold dresses and classic Hamptons setting, Montauk might not be the place for you. But if you want to see a more real side of the Hamptons, love to surf and like to move your friends from Lower Eastside to the seaside this is the place to be. The Surf Lodge has been a hipster paradice since it first opened a couple of years ago. Since then the owners have also opened Ruschmeyers at the other side of the lake, and a lot of the hipsters have moved over there. The Surf Lodge is located right by a lake. All the rooms have balconys with seaview and a hammock. The rooms are clean and nicely designed. The breakfast is great and so is the hotels restaurant, where I recommend to book a table by the lake for sunset. I find The Surf Lodge a better deal for the price than Ruschmeyers - which rooms are smaller and with no balcony. Be prepared to book ahead, cause the word is definitively ot that The Surf Lodge is a great vacation spot. Bring hat, suncreen and a surfboard. You can rent bikes for 40 dollar a day and cruise around the beaches of Montauk. Take a stroll down by the Lighthouse and catch a wave on your way back!
