“so.. so..”

I would not recommend this Hotel. The attitude and bad service unfortunately overshadow the fairly decent product. The room was nice with a small deck and hammock overlooking the lake. Towels had stains, the shower sprayed on the ceiling dripping "yellow" water down whilst showering. YUK! One staff member we encountered was very polite and helpful, the rest did not really care.

“Unjustified Attitude”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

Nice spot but staff are way to full of themselves for my liking. Been going every summer for past three years but unlikely to stay again due to the arrogant and unfriendly nature of the staff.

“Summer hideaway from the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

If you're looking for gold dresses and classic Hamptons setting, Montauk might not be the place for you. But if you want to see a more real side of the Hamptons, love to surf and like to move your friends from Lower Eastside to the seaside this is the place to be. The Surf Lodge has been a hipster paradice since it first opened a couple of years ago. Since then the owners have also opened Ruschmeyers at the other side of the lake, and a lot of the hipsters have moved over there. The Surf Lodge is located right by a lake. All the rooms have balconys with seaview and a hammock. The rooms are clean and nicely designed. The breakfast is great and so is the hotels restaurant, where I recommend to book a table by the lake for sunset. I find The Surf Lodge a better deal for the price than Ruschmeyers - which rooms are smaller and with no balcony. Be prepared to book ahead, cause the word is definitively ot that The Surf Lodge is a great vacation spot. Bring hat, suncreen and a surfboard. You can rent bikes for 40 dollar a day and cruise around the beaches of Montauk. Take a stroll down by the Lighthouse and catch a wave on your way back!

“Very Bohemian. Very Surfer. Very Nice.”

Not your 'typical' hotel/lodge. Very different. It's an older establishment located on Fort Pond. Every room has a balcony facing the pond with, a hammock and chair.
We had a superior room(#18), large, with huge closet. Very comfortable bed, kitchenette (frig, micro, coffee-maker, and kitchen ware), and very clean. ... No phone! (Great).
The staff are absolutely wonderful - Irish college kids on work visas.
The continental breakfast is OUTSTANDING!
Bathroom is minuscule!
CAUTION: On Friday and Saturday nights the place transforms to very loud bar scene complete with DJ. ... Good luck in getting in to the private parking lot if you're a guest. Not easy, and very time consuming.
Very close to everything - town, beach, restaurants, etc.
Overall - One-of-a-kind. And would stay there again

Room Tip: All rooms are basically the same decor. Some are larger than others. We stayed in #18. Perfect.

“Hip vibe and beautiful views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

Was really torn as to whether to stay here since the reviews were so mixed. Now I undertand why there is such opposing views - this place doesn't easily fall into a category. Its priced like a resort where you'd find lots of activities and amenities, but they are just not there. Instead, what you get is a location on Fort Pond that is absolutely gorgeous and funky rooms with fabulous views (we stayed in room 2). Much of our time was spent lying in bed which was perfectly positioned to absorb the view. We stayed three weeknights and the hotel was pretty quiet. A good bar crowd in early evening for live music but then quiet thereafter. Understand that the place is hopping on weekends, but didn't get to experience that. Bathroom nicely done with glass walled shower to enjoy the view while showering. Breakfast was low-key - croissants and fruit layed out in small, open-air dining room - nothing fancy and sufficed.

Was going to pick up a couple of Surf Lodge t-shirts for the kids, but they ask $65 each !!

Highly recommended if you are not looking for a big resort atmosphere.
