“awesome hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

The service was outstanding, the grounds were very well kept and the rooms were extremly clean. The staff was very friendly towards us, check in was a breeze. The owner, Dick, was very friendly, he was a Yankees fan though, and im a Red Sox fan, ahahaha that was very funny. All and All i loved it there, everything was wondeful.

“Inhospitable place for families with young children - Arrogant owner”

I am compelled to write this review because no guests in the future have to undergo humiliating, uncivilized, and arrogant experience from Colonel Williams Lake George resort’s owner.

During the second day of stay, around 8:00 PM, up on noticing the leak under the kitchenette sink, I called the office. The owner of the property, whose name I think is Richard, came by to inspect the leak.
He noticed few small spots of stain in the carpet near the refrigerator. He asked me whether I caused the stain. I told him that I did not do it, and perhaps my kids have caused it.
He got very angry about the stain and mentioned that he will charge for the carpet stain. He also threatened that he will do something to my car so that I cannot leave next day without paying for the stain damages. My family and I were appalled by the Resort owner’s disproportionate reaction to few small stains. We would have agreed if he charges extra fees for cleaning up of few stain spots, which I think can be easily done with a $5 carpet stain remover spray.
I hoped that was just a one-time incident and went to the backyard and started the barbecue. Few minutes later, the owner came to the backside and continued shouting demeaning statements. He then walked towards me, came close to my face and demanded us to leave the property immediately. My kids, wife, father-in-law and I were in a total shock receiving such a humiliating treatment.
The owner’s daughter, who was friendly throughout the stay, didn’t come for help even though I called and informed her about the situation. We informed the police about the owner’s aggressive behavior.
We took pictures and video of the carpet stains. Although it was our prerogative to stay in a paid room, upholding our dignity we vacated the room.

“Beware of the Colonel”

I booked this hotel because the reviews said it is very clean and yes it was clean and the lawn was perfectly manicured. Check in was easy and friendly. However, upon check in we found there were no garbage bags for the cans and they dont give you any also upon request. The towels are for kids, but they were clean and we could deal with that. However, we felt that our every move was watched. The colonel in his Golf cart is watching the grounds and your every move. I was afraid to make the wrong move and get yelled by The Colonel. Oh yes he will yell and if you rub him the wrong way he will have you checked out. It happened to the family next door to us. Lots and lots of rules to follow. So it may be clean and it seems the Colonel cares more about keeping his property in tip top condition rather than the guests having a good time. If you are in a people's business there will be wear and tear. We will not be going back. Cannot relax when you are watched the entire time.

“Could be the best hotel in Lake George...except...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2010

My husband and our four children stayed here over the July 4th weekend. It was the only hotel with vacancy for a last minute booking. Arriving, we were amazed at the meticulous landscaping and excellent condition of the exterior. Inside was just as delightful and for clean freaks like me, a relief. Upon check in we were overcharged for our room twice, but it was adjusted without hiccup. The owners were friendly and showed us to our room. We stayed in the two bedroom suite it was impeccably clean and well maintained. The playground for the kids is fantastic and the pools were awesome. Everything is well maintained and cared for- I can't say it enough because it's such a rare find.

Our problem with the place was the rules and that we simply felt watched. There are no juice boxes allowed in the refrigerator (you have a playground, a game room, but there's no juiceboxes allowed in the refrigerator? Bizarre.) There is a two adult to child ratio rule at the pool, and with four kids, simply impossible. What if my five year old is tired and wants to go inside? That means my other three children also must leave the pool grounds. I understand the purpose of the rule, but it's not practical. The groundskeeper (who barely spoke english) kept appearing and staring at us as though we were doing something wrong simply by BEING there. At 7:30pm he came to the pool area to tell us that the pool closes at 8pm and simply stood there until we left. On the first day, the hot tub was open, but we were told that children under 8 couldn't be in there. No problem, we are very easy going, rule abiding people, and I made my 5 year old get out. But the second day, the groundskeeper sat in front of it like a Buckingham palace guard and when my husband asked if he could go in, he was told that it was "closed". Overall I felt as though I was at my proverbial grandmother's house and I was going to get yelled at if I sat on the "good" sofa... It was not a relaxing environment at all, but really could have been be if we felt we were able to enjoy what we paid for. I'm sure that the groundskeeper only acts on the instructions of the owners and although I understand that they want to protect their investment and they work hard to keep it in excellent condition, it ruins the experience if you're not able to enjoy what you paid for.

The bottom line is that if you want the cleanest and best accommodations ever and you can also stand to adhere to strict rules and can relax even though you're being watched, then this is the place for you. But I don't think we'll be returning.

“Best resort in the Lake George area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2009

"Located just south of Lake George on Route 9, this is by far the best resort in the area. All rooms are located a good distance of the highway giving you and the family a great deal of privacy. Since staying at the Colonel Williams several years ago, it has become our annual get-a-way for extended weekends. The family suites are ideal for two couples or a family. The rooms and grounds are meticulously well kept. The pool area is to the rear the complex off the highway and there are always plenty of towels. Parking is at your door and no elevators required to get to any upper floors. Everything is on ground level. This year we brought along three of my married children and their families and all enjoyed the stay. The kids really enjoyed the continental outdoor breakfast wagon located by the front office There is plenty of outdoor play room and a very nice indoor pool for those possible rainy afternoons. We'll be returning again next summer."
